Some kind of trouble?

Just got a new computer and still have the old mouse and keyboard hooked up to it and was just wondering if it isn't compatible could it cause all kinds of problems.The problem is when it happens is that websites displays and certain functions don't work. Like for instance the left click works on some things and not others and on websites the drop down menus at the top aren't there. Outlook express welcome page completely disappears. This one guy said I should try this thing called scripten, so I did and it worked. A day or so later it happened again and each time it happens I install scripten again and everything is alright until next time. Does anybody have any ideas on why this keeps happening..Could it be the incompatible mouse and keyboard?

I don't think it would... But with computers anythings possible. Never ehard of this "scripten" program though. Have you tried restoring your computer? Or re-installing windows? If the computer has been doing this from the get-go you should try to contact the manufacturer. Which raises another question. You got a computer and moniter but it didn't come with a keybd and mouse?

Never ehard of this "scripten" program though.

I believe he means "MS script en.exe"

I don't think that it is a problem with the peripherals. It sounds more like a bad installation of Windows. Some manufacturers put a lot of crap into OEM-installations and/or the wrong drivers. I have a Sony Laptop that doesn't work with the pre-installed »Sony-Windows« at all: USB-Ports don't work, power management causes the system to crash very often and so on. After I've bought a new Windows CD and installed that without the Sony-crap, the Laptop runs very well.

Have you installed the latest versions of the programs you use? (Internet Explorer, Outlook Express etc.) Have you installed the latest updates? Do you have Service Pack 2? When you take a look into the device manager, is it all fine there? (No yellow questionmarks or red crosses?) Have you installed the latest mother board drivers and the latest drivers for all devices at all?

Questions over questions ... I will try to help but I need more details about your system.

Haven't installed anything other than the programs that worked fine on my old computer, no yellow or red marks in device manager. Have all latest updates and it came with service pack 2. Haven't installed any new drivers at all. But I did hook up the mouse and keyboard that came withh it ( it sucks). but will see if problem still occurs..

I for one would not put up with this situation. If the computer is new then it should have shipped with SP2 and all the drivers should be up to date. Unless the mouse and keyboard you attached to it are ancient I don't see where that should be an issue. I basically agree with Inge18. Unless you got this machine with little or no warranty or support I'd take it back where I got it and DEMAND a solution. If the sucky mouse and keyboard make the problems go away then the solution is easy but then you'll have to lay out some cash for a mouse and keyboard of your liking. Seems to me that when you lay out a bunch of cash for a new computer that it should work!

Already ordered a mouse and keyboard and if problem still happens well I have some kind of support for 2 years that says in home support also. Got it from dell 4700c dimension.

I would call Dell support about this problem, they will fix it for you no doubt!
Right click on My Computer on your desktop, click on properties and then click on Support Information.

I agree with JamMeister33, you should try the support. Normally Dells are good machines running stable. And from what I have heard I guess their support is very good, they will help you for sure.

Koasati---it's actually called scripten.exe at least thats what it says when you go to download it..

All this talk about re-installing the OS as the solution....

reinstalling the OS should be the very LAST thing you do and only as a last ditch effort to get the PC running...

I had an optical wireless mouse with keyboard on my old system and tried using it on the new one, but started using the one they sent me with computer to see if that was the problem. Ordered new wireless optical mouse with keyboard thats compatible with system. Also I got an external cd burner, because I didn't think about it when I ordered the computer, to back some things up but ended up taking it back . Ordered one from dell thats for my system. Maybe the other one caused some kind of problem.. Who knows..

Koasati is correct, I am the one who left the link to Microsoft Script "scripten.exe".

Quote from microsoft site:

"This download installs Microsoft® Windows® Script containing Visual Basic® Script Edition (VBScript.) Version 5.6, JScript® Version 5.6, Windows Script Components, Windows Script Host 5.6, and Windows Script Runtime Version 5.6."

This is the latest release (September 2004) of the file.

Left link because the issue as stated was connected to web pages, which seemed to indicate a script isssue instead of a hardware issue because the hardware was working locally.

Thought I would clear that part up.
