Welcome Screen Goofed up

I posted earlier, but it doesn't look like it showed up....
I had installed all the newest versions of WindowBlinds, Iconpackager (both registered), CursorXP, IconDeveloper, LogonStudio, BootSkin, objectdock (last 5 were freeware versions). I downloaded all the skins and what not (mostly Mac looking ones). Everything worked fine.... At least for a day, then all of a sudden when I come out of screensaver mode, I do not get the welcome screen. I get the Textbox (for entering your password). Looks like the one in Windows 2000. The welcome screen works when I first boot the system up. I did disable themeing using services.msc (as talked about in Link).
I went in and unloaded everything (or selected the default windows packages) and then uninstalled all the programs. I went back into services.msc and enabled themes again - restarted it also. Still the welcome screen doesn't work. Also when I go into display properties (rick click desktop... Properties), the theme window shows what looks like the classic Windows (non-colored close and other buttons). I went into the Appearance tab, but Windows XP Style is selected.
How can I fix this?

It's already ticked... It uses the Welcome screen when when I first boot the system, it just doesn't use it from screen saver.

Not sure of all that you may have tried already, but here are some basics:
Go to the "Display Properties > Theme tab" and select Windows XP from the "Theme" drop down list, then click "Apply" (note - if the "Apply" button is not available, select "Classic" from the drop down list, then select Windows XP - this will enable the "Apply" button.
This should get the default XP theme back.
Now go to "Display Properties > Screen Saver tab", set the Screen Saver "Wait" time to say 2 minutes for testing purposes, then deselect "On resume, password protect", click "Apply".
Reboot machine before screen saver kicks in, to insure the Welcome Screen shows up correctly after reboot, then log-on and wait 2 minutes or so for the screen saver to start. After screen saver runs, bring machine out of screen saver mode to insure this is working.
If all is well, go back to "Display Properties > Screen Saver tab" and select the "On resume, password protect", then click "Apply" and wait 2 minutes to test the Password Protect mode - you should see the Welcome Screen.
Note - In normal cases, the classic logon shows up either when the Welcome Screen is disabled, or when the computer is part of a domain.

Okay, this should do it.
In order to get the Welcome Screen to show up on resume from screen saver, you need to get the option "On resume, display Welcome screen" - not "On resume, password protect" as I indicated above in the "Display Properties > Screen Saver tab" dialog. To do this you need the following:
1) At least two accounts including yours (create one in "Control Panel>User Accounts" dialog if needed).
2) Offline files disabled - to do this; open any windows explorer and go to "Tools>Folder Options>Offline Files tab" and deselect "Enable Offline Files", then click "Apply". (Fast User Switching and Offline Files are incompatible)
3) Fast User Switching enabled - to do this; go to "Control Panel>User Accounts>Change the way users Log on or off" and select "Use Fast User Switching", then click "Apply Options" (Note - "Use the Welcome screen" must also be selected).
Important - before setting up the requirements, go to "Display Properties > Screen Saver tab" and deselect the "On resume, password protect" option, then click "Apply".
After setting up the three requirements, reboot the computer, then go to "Display Properties > Screen Saver tab" and you should see the new option "On resume, display Welcome screen" - select this and set the wait time to say 1 minute (pick a screensaver if one is not selected), then click "Apply". Wait a minute or so until the screen saver engages, then let it run for about 30 seconds so the system is completely in screen saver mode, then move mouse or strike a key to resume - you should see the Welcome screen now.
If for some reason you don't get the "On resume, display Welcome screen", you may have to deselect both "Use Fast User Switching" and "Use the Welcome screen" mentioned in #3 above, then reboot, then reselect, then reboot. I have noticed that Windows can be fickle about applying things - but the deselect, reboot, reselect, reboot method usually works.
I hope this works for you, I tested it on my machine and all went well.

The Offline files option only applies to XP Pro, so for XP Home - just use #1 & #3.

Ok Thanks, it works now. What I don't understyand is WHY did it change. It was showing the welcome screen, and then it stopped. do you know if this is some "new" "feature" that MS just created?

If you run XP Pro, and Offline Files was enabled in some way, then that would probably explain it. Offline Files is known to be incompatible with Fast User Switching.
It also could be that one of the updates did this and was not explained, or that selecting some default value changed one of the settings. Something must have changed the relationship between the Fast User Switching option and the "On resume" requirements - because the "On resume, display Welcome screen" option is only supposed to show up when Fast User Switching is enabled.
I plan to research this some more and will post here again if I find an answer.
