Taskbar problem

Monday, March 7, 2005 by AvenFury | Discussion: ObjectDock

I recently upgraded from the free version of OD to OD+ .Installed correctly, now I have a problem with my taskbar. When I restart my computer it takes my windows taskbar a good 15 minutes to load up ,untill then it I just get the busy arrow whenever I mouse over the taskbar, the graphics don't even load for the taskbar.
I checked the 'hide windows taskbar " in OD but that only hides the problem ,I planned on using OD+ to replace my desktop icons, not my taskbar.Any help with this would be appreciated.

P.S. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling that didn't work.

AvenFury,

Not sure on this one, hopefully someone has seen this before.

Are you running a Taskbar tab and/or System Tray tab that might be causing an issue?

You could try this if you have not already done so:

Save your theme, deselect any option to "Load ObjectDock at startup", then unload ObjectDock and go to: "C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Stardock" folder (where "C" is the letter drive, and "user name" is the name on the account when you are logged in) and delete any ObjectDock folder there.

Note - if you can't see the "Local Settings" folder, open any windows explorer and go to "Tools>Folder Options>View tab" and select "Show hidden files and folders", then click "Apply").

Right-click taskbar > Properties and deselect "Lock the Taskbar" and "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows", then click "Apply" - Then reselect "Lock the Taskbar" and "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows", then click "Apply". This is just to let windows know exactly what you want.

Reboot computer, and see how the taskbar loads. If all is well, load ObjectDock - you should see the default docks load because you cleared the cache in Local Settings, then use ObjectDock config to load your saved theme.

If all is well, select "Load ObjectDock at startup" and see how it goes, if all is still good - save your theme again so that it is written to cache.

Good luck.

Are you in a networked anvironment? There are known issues with login delays to windows domains see: http://www.windowsitpro.com/Article/ArticleID/38325/38325.html
and: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;832161

I am experiencing a similar problem although:
1. I didn't put it down to OD+ (because I had OD+ installed prior to getting the delays with no problem).
2. I'm in a network, but there are no domain controllers present!

Fixed! Thanks for the replies, not sure which step of all that helped me Corky O,I believe I might have had some lingering files from the free version of OD,because I noticed it was still in my start-up,I deleted that before reloading OD+,After I deleted the OD folder and the startup it works perfectly.Again thanks for the help.
