User Icon

Sunday, February 27, 2005 by Peggy Hall | Discussion: WindowBlinds

Lost my user icon in start menu - has something to do with WB but I can't get it back even if I reload or don't load. And it is set to be on in WB options.

What WindowBlind are you using? Is there a substyle selected that does not support a user pic (i.e., compact)?

I assume you have already used the Control Panel > User Accounts > Select account > Change Picture option?

User pics are stored at "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\Default Pictures" (where "C" is the letter drive). You can manually place any 48x48 pixel ".bmp" file in the folder and use it for your user pic. This is one of those hidden folders by default - use "Tools > Folder Options > View tab" and select "Show hidden files and folders", then click "Apply" if you can't see the folder path.

Not sure if this helps, but some information anyway.

Some WB's will have hide user pic set, this can be changed in SkinStudio, start panel, user pane, hide user picture,
some start menus do not look good when user pic is enabled so the skinner will disable user pic.

If a skin is set to have no User Icon, it will probably look bad if you re-enable it in the skin. Some Start Panels don't even have a place for a user icon, such as the one in my latest skin.
