What was already in my opinion the best desktop search engine on the market got even better with the recent release of version 1.5.

New Features:
  • Mozilla Thunderbird and Eudora email search
  • Smart indexing of network drives
  • Improved metadata indexing for pictures, music and videos
  • New information pane listing additional categories with matching results
  • Buttons to instantly seek to highlighted search terms
  • Previewing of found pictures, music, videos and contacts
  • Improved usability
  • New COM API allowing third-party developers to create plug-ins enabling new file type indexing
Other Improvements/Changes:
  • 20 file types have been added to the default list of types to index
  • Wildcards can now be used to add custom file extensions to index

This is unbelievable. Key words in document??? Wow. Mine is still indexing but do you notice it slowing your system running in the background? Mind you, I have a lot running in the tray.

It's slowing down your system because it's still indexing. Once that's done you shouldn't notice anything.

ummm, this thing either doesn't have a titlebar, doesn't like windowblinds or is just stubborn and won't come down to show the titlebar. Looks like it's stuck up off the top of the screen. Otherwise very cool search engine!!

HAH! Found it. Had to unload windowblinds and change CDS to a non-maximized window, reapply windowblinds.

Been using it for a couple of years about the time it first come out to say and cant say enough about it, I really like it. All in all I find Copernic to be a really good program. Just my opinion.

I prefer this desktop search to the Google version,been using it for a few months now

I prefer the Yahoo Desktop Search. It has viewers that can handle my Autocad drawings files. The indexing seems a little slower but once complete there is very little impact to the system.

Great news! One of the few that works with Thunderbird. I'm happy.

I tried this the other day, let it tell me it was done indexing, then searched for an executable that I knew was there. Came up with nothing. Did I miss something? Is it not for finding files (like .exe or .dll) as well? Uninstalled as it didn't even find the file. Did I do something wrong? Or should I just give it a second try?

well, it looks as though the default installation doesn't look for executables, just document types. I was able to go into the options menu and add '*.exe' as a file to look for. Before I did that, I tried searching for wbconfig.exe and it found all instances of 'wbconfig' AND '.exe'inside documents. Not exactly what I was looking for. All of the results turned up in d:\stardock programs\...

Available desktop search categories:

* Files: Office documents (Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, Excel worksheets), WordPerfect documents, Adobe Acrobat documents, HTML pages, Text files, and ASP, .C, .CPP, .CS, .CSV, .H, .INC, .INI, JAVA, .PAS, .XML, .XSL documents. Certain file properties only are also indexed by default for these additional text files: GZ, HLP, RAR, SWF, TAR, VSD.
* Emails: Outlook 2000/XP/2003, Outlook Express 5.x/6.x, Eudora 5.0 and Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0 emails and attachments.
* Music: Full metadata indexing of iTunes, MP3, OGG, WMA and WAV music files.
* Pictures: Full metadata indexing of EXIF, JPEG, GIF picture files.

Well, for one, it's supposed to be a document search engine. It isn't designed to search for executables or DLL's or other non-document files.
Second, it also doesn't index your whole computer by default. I changed my options to index my whole C and D drives... Of course the indexing took hours and hours to complete, but now I can find any document real quick.

Anyone else notice the 'taskpane' headers are white, making their text unreadable using anything but classic or luna? Meaning it wont work with msstyles or WB, perhaps something to do with shellstyles?

yeah, noticed that my screen looked different that the screenies at the web site. Now that I know those things are there I can use them with WB.
