I Work and Live in a Freaking Circus
Michael Jackson Pukes in my Hospital

I live in Santa Maria, California. I am a nurse at Marian Extended Care Center, which is right across the street from Marian Medical Center.
Today, Marian Medical Center became one of the most famous (infamous?) hospitals in the country. This is because it's the hospital where Michael Jackson ended up when he started hurling on the way to court this morning.
My poor little town has never seen anything like this. It's bad enough that we're having to put up with the worldwide media descending on us for the trial (BTW, the courthouse where it's taking place is less than a mile away from my apartment), but they descended on our one and only hospital today, completely disrupting our jobs and our patients' lives.
Both the main hospital and the extended care center where I work were in lockdown today, and the hospital press conference that took place at about 1:30 this afternoon Californa time took place in our facility's conference room. It was amazing and downright infuriating to see the reporters and the technicians running amok in the front of our facility, waiting for the ER doctor to make his way across the street. And we even set out coffee and cookies for them.
When I left work this evening, the entire street in front of our facility was wall-to-wall with satellite trucks, and reporters and technicians are staking out the hospital just in case Jacko leaves in the middle of the night. Argh.
So, hello from Circus-Town!

Hey, that reminds me, when I got back to my office when it was time to leave, my office partner greeted me with this remark:
"I have good news, don't worry, they've located his nose and it's going to be surgically reattached tonight!"
When I repeated that line to my mother (parental units live here in Santa Maria as well, within walking distance of the hospital), she started laughing so hard she couldn't talk anymore and had to give the phone to my father.

I lived/worked in Santa Maria for a year in the mid 90s...nice area!

Insanity, Day 2
Hospital still in lockdown, had to knock on the window of the department I visit every day for them to let me in. Our special patient was on the top floor, and my duties in the hospital took me within about 50 feet of his room. And the 4 giant bodyguards sitting outside. At one point this afternoon, Jackson did his usual thing of waving to fans from his window.
The funniest news of the day...the satellite trucks were still on the street outside of our facility, about a dozen of them at least. Needless to say, they were an eyesore, and they were impeding traffic as well. Well, in the middle of the afternoon, some Santa Maria policemen showed up and ticketed every single one of the satellite trucks.
Best news of the day...Jackson was finally discharged and left the hospital somewhere between 5:30 and 6:00 this afternoon, so all should be back to normal tomorrow.
