Help with Macromedia!!! Help fast.

Takes over my machine

Monday, February 14, 2005 by Just4Jane | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I recently uninstalled macromedia (I guess Flash, but I know they have several programs). Now every time I start the computer it automaticly opens the browser and goes to the macromedia download page. I even put the D.... thing back on and it still does this. Please, please can someone tell me now to get the operation to quit. I am so mad at Macromedia I could spit. And of course, they have no technical support except for purchased programs. After this, I will never put another one of their programs on again.

That is very strange. I have a whole bunch of Macromedia products, and none load at startup. But my guess is still that you must have some Macromedia utility or something that is set to load at startup and, failing to find it, redirects you to Macromedia's download page.
Check in your startup group (Start / All Programs / Startup) see if you have something from Macromedia there, or even any program with the default unknown icon. You can also type "msconfig" in the RUN dialog and look under the Startup tab, see if you have some Macromedia utility set to load at startup.

I was going to suggest the same thing with the msconfig. I did a complete reinstall a few weeks ago and checked the msconfig start up tab. Windows only sets three things in there (XP). after I install something I check the tab and see what has changed. Maybe we can go through them if you don't have any luck (and xp)

God bless.

Could be an incomplete re-sumable dowload from macromedia. Whatever the reason you are being redirected to thier download page, you'll need to find out where this redirecting file is located. As others have said you need to do a little searching. check all of the following for any trace of a macromedia product, tool or maybe even an impeding "remind me in X days" registration. Check: start menu start up folder, msconfig, sys processes, also check the following folders in your registry : HKEY\current user\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run and HKEY\current user\software\macromedia
Also, just for the heck of it, check to see what your home/start up page in IE is set to. If its set to Macromedia, change it. Good luck

Thanks to all of you for your help. I had the same problem this AM and when it directed me to the web I installed the "Flash" ... no more problems! Apparently one of my programs requires that. I will take you advise, Lady Crissy, and check further into the registry, etc. Thanks again for your help. I have always found people on this site are the greatest and can help me with any problem!
