False email using Pay Pal

Friday, February 11, 2005 by joeKnowledge | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

be careful you guys... it had to happen I guess.

I got an email from 'pay pal' and it wanted me to conferm my account...

I looked at the link and its not real. the actuall address goes to some sort of kids website (Town4 Kids), but add the back part and it takes you to pay pal 'website'

Main link:
http://202.172.226.72/

Now add this to the link above in the address bar:
.cgi-bin/login.htm

now I am on a pay pal site??? give me a break!!!!

Joe, PayPal never sends email asking for any info on your account. Never.

Oh man! Now you tell me!... JK

I got this same email and did the same exact thing and looked at the url. Some of those are really convincing. I've seen then create addresses like, http://services.paypal.x.com/login.htm or something close to that.. hehehe

I get similar ones from Microsoft and from different financial institutes.....scum preying on folks who aren't too computer savvy.

I've gotten about a half dozen of those PayPal phishing emails. I was pretty sure the first one was phony, but I forwarded it to PayPal and they confirmed that they would never send an email like that. I got a few more, but haven't seen any for a while.
