What to get?

Wednesday, January 26, 2005 by Akoloutheo | Discussion: New Users

I am new to the whole wincustomize.com thing and I must praise you all for the great quality of work present. So how do you do it? Which software should I buy to begin designing stuff tike Logons, Bootskins, Icons, Windowblinds, etc.? Is it all combined in the Stardock package? Are there any extras that I should be aware of? What "Art/Editing/Design" program should I use? (This is a chance for you to sell sell sell wincustomize!)
When we place window blinds on our PCs, aren't they just that, a covering? Does it affect the stability of the operating system (mine is Win XP with SP2)? A you can tell I'm pretty unfamiliar with this so don't get too technical with me!

Thanks

Object Desktop would be your best bet. I've had it for over a year now and I can honestly say it has been the best thing I ever bought for my PC..don't know what I'd do without it.

If you should decide to try the free versions make sure you uninstall them before going to the paid versions.

I bought my copy of Object Desktop as soon as I cruised the libraries and saw what I could do with it.

Thanks for the advice! I'm reading these forums and most people reformatted their hard drive when they received there computers. Mine is a year old so I'm gonna do that first then buy OD. Does anyone know is it slows the system down much? I want to do home video editing on mine. Would I need to shut OD down before doing this?

Speaking for myself, I don't see any slowdown whatsoever. But I suppose it all depends on how many of the apps or widgets, and so forth you have running.

So today I tried playing Ghost Recon right. The game just died on me and there was I thinking that perhaps it was something that I had installed recently. I couldn't get GR to work properly so I bit the bullet and did a complete reformat of the hard drive. Man what a difference!!! Everybody shoud do it! In msconfig I must have had thirty or so items under the startup menu which I didn't think was bad. After the reinstall, THREE. Boot times are so fast I can't make a cup of tea any more while I wait. I can't wait to try the Object Desktop package now! I just have to convince my wife to let me buy it! If any one knows any good excuses to give her it would be appreciated

Thanks
