PSP Pro 9.x- how to make a 'pallette' or 'swatch' of just the colors I need

OK, I've looked in the help file under both of those items, but I just can't figure out how to do this. The stuff I'm working on only has 7 colors in them. When I reduce the color depth, these colors change and I don't want that. I can only get one color at a time in the swatch tab and I can't get a pallette to only contain the colors I want. I'm really tired of having to change the stroke/fill color every time I want to change them. There should be a way to just have those 7 colors to choose from.
Anyone know how to do this? I'd appreciate some guidance
It's probably really easy and therefore not readily recognizable.

I'm not using version 9, but I don't think it's very different from version 8.10......
To 'empty' the Swatch tab, first I would set it to only display 'color' only (no gradients, patterns, or textures)On the bottom right of the Material palette there's a button to set what the Swatch tab displays.
Then you click on each color swatch and delete it (use the Trash icon button) until the they are all gone.
Now left click the Foreground color box, the Materials dialog pops up. Mouse over the color in the image you want to add, and left click, then use the "Add to swatches" button. Do this until you have all your colors set.
Hope that helps.......... if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Oh my....
I was doing that, but I thought that 1 swatch was a collection of colors with the same name. I was clicking on the color, adding to swatches, I gave it the name of the theme I was working on. When I clicked on the second color, it wanted a different name, so I never completed it, thinking that I would have to load seven different swatches to get all my colors, which was defeating the purpose of the whole thing. This time I just gave the colors different names and there they all were...
Sometimes, I really wonder if a swift kick in the butt wouldn't be all that bad of a thing.

Your confusing a Swatch, with the Swatch Tab. Swatches are the indiviual colors available inside the Swatch tab/window.
I have all my favorite gradients, as well as colors setup this way.

Yeah, I think I get that now that you've helped me gain understanding There doesn't seem to be a way to save the swatch "group". That way I could work on one project for a while and then switch to a different project, but hey, If I saved the workspace as 'projectA' would that save the swatches contained within? Then when I switched to 'projectB' it would have the swatches I saved with that? Ooooohhhh

No, unfornuately we can't save different swatch groups (would be nice if we could). But you can name swatches so that certain ones group together.

See, that's what I thought a pallette was: you could choose which colors you wanted to work with and save them as a group with a name which could be called up later. This seems like such an essential thing to have in a painting program, I'm not sure why there isn't one. You can name and save combinations of presets in an effect to call up at a later time, why not sets of colors. It's a mystery

Color palettes may work just the way you want........ I've just never taken the time to study them. Swatches aren't color palettes, they're simply shortcuts to favorite colors, gradients, patterns, and textures.

Right, I understand that now. When I looked at palettes the help file said that a pallette was the collection of colors at a specific color depth. 16m color depth has no pallete, because it's made up of all the colors your monitor can display, or some such thing. It doesn't seem as though there is anyway to save a collection of colors as a file and call it up on demand. Oh well, off to the Jasc forums for a suggestion.

werewolf, I found a great tutorial on how to create your own palette. You should be able to make one with your seven colors, then save it to your "My PSP" files in the Palette folder, then load it whenever you need it. The tutorial is located at this site:
