Anyone know how to change a skin to compact mode?

i know i seen an article from awhile back but now i dont know how to get to it, can someone help me or have any information on how to make a full windowblind skin into a compact one?thank you

Umm.. yeah, this creates the compact start menu, but ... my normal menu is now also compact... 
After fiddling.. if i specify a Prefix name in the box then the choice of sub styles works properly
