LAME!!!

Friday, January 7, 2005 by IMAGEOD | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

people know what they are doing is removing my skins from the visible library and its not fair, they said they were doing it and why, yet no1 cares. I think this system is rigged, because only people with a user level of 4 and higher can rate and that means that they are subscribers and or skinners who want to hold other skinners as down as possible. People dont even download my skins anymore they just click one. Look at the comments at https://www.wincustomize.com/ViewSkin.aspx?SkinID=1289&LibID=25&comments=1 im sick of people just clicking 1. I think there should be a few more rules so people in 'power' dont hold all the cards, i think that you should state why you are rating the skin the way you are rating it, that you should only get to rate 1 skins per artist per day, that people who abuse ratings should lose thier user level, and that skins with a rating of 2 are lower are not hidden by default . Ive made several posts trying to get staff attention yet i continue being ignored. Most the nasty comments i recieve are about my NICK, i find that to be very stupid, what does my name have to do with my skins.

No problem with the user name here.... its the net and he can call himself whatever he wants within reason and it got passed user name creation at WC, get a thicker skin guys its not offencive or doing anyone any harm.... grow up.... get real and understand that freedom of expression goes both ways.....

Its a shame that there are any skins that become hidden (if that is the case as I dunno....) I would like the choice as a user to view everything that is posted.

Whenever people post any work online they must expect to get comments be it positive or negative, people have opinions and should feel free to express them, I'm sure most authors don't care about unhelpful comments at all.

I will be the first to admit that I am no angel and have posted without thinking once or twice here and there (after a night out even lol) but on the whole I only comment on work I liked to express my thanks and appreciation to the author.

Slamming folk for having an opinion sucks, just ignore it if you dont like it and move on you will live.
As soon as you start to censor or try to humiliate people for their work or opinions you lose members/customers.

This is a community site and folks that contribute....Subscribers, Apprentices, Stardock Customers, Journeymen, etc. have a choice to what quality work they wish to see when they browse the libraries. There is no hiding of skins from the contributing community.

It appears IMGOD has been banned at Deviant Art...

It does not surprise me one bit with all the controversial issues this kid has and the nasty arrogant attitude to complement them, and that little wallpaper with the upside-down cross doesn’t help much either.

Perhaps this postings are a desperate way to draw attention to him self and get people to take a glance at his gallery.

Thought about that. Think he is in need of help?

I mean that with all respect to him. Sometimes people reach out in strange ways.

There is no 'freedom of expression' on the 'net... Sites are private property of their owners, and if the 'ramblings' of the member(s) of a site are deemed 'offensive' to the owner, the offended has every right to censor the offender.

Developer Sleeping Dragon I agree with you 100%..thats exactly I believe he's doing. You must remembet that today isnt like when I or you grew up. And I believe that he is reaching out and trying to get help but in his own way. Hopefully more people will think about that. I do say this with all due respect to Citizen IMGOD5552666

Perhaps we should ask him.

Here goes:

IMGOD, could you tell us what you want in clear words?

This would give the people who care some direction, and would give you the type of help that can be provided.

Thank you.

Judging by this thread he wants people to rate his work higher or at least not rate it so low, but then again, people will judge, comment and rate based on what is presented to them and if the work presented is poorly crafted, then the author cannot expect a good response or high ratings.
What makes it worst is when the author (in this case IMGOD) turns a deaf ear to the advices and feedback from the users and not been able to accept criticism he turns defensive and arrogant (which is not a good move if you are trying to get on the good side of a crowd)
The fact that he has not honed his graphic skills has nothing to do with the reaction that he is getting. The bad karma been displayed is a direct result to the bad manners and arrogance he has showed since day one.
Many people have try to help him by suggesting the ways to create and upload his work to better himself and make browsing thru the libraries more pleasant, but his 'god-like' complex prevents him from reason, unleashing the wave of negative feedback from the users.

So again, [IMGOD] here are a few things you can put into practice that will help you avoid all this hustle:

-Read some tutorials so you can improve your work, A Goggle search will do it.
-Create better screenshots of your work. The better the work is presented the better it will be welcomed.
-When uploading various versions of the same theme, upload it as a pack. It makes browsing user-friendlier and it's less strain to people with slow connections.
-And last but not least, reconsider changing your nickname to a less offensive/controversial one. People would give more consideration to your work if they are not offended right off the bat by your name.

Therefor if god doesnt like what im doing he can do something about it cause he is god, not you, therefor it is not your job to kiss his butt.

It is just possible that God is doing something about it. Just look at all the people he sent to talk to you.

"read #1" ... ? This is the "sum-total" after so many thoughtful, insightful, caring responses?

Please end this thread once and for all as this minimally talented skinner is not deserving of the same kind of care, concern and attention that has been shown towards him.

I hate the name but some of his work is good but comment #53 is hurtful. You need to improve your art and screens first off make them small and not to big.Like some people said use a varity of colours.Dont Go bizzare and dont make the work thick and large.

On the other hand <- some of the comments are nasty.

here's my thoughts:

I use a cursorXP on my computer for a couple of months at a time. Now, out of the thousands of themes out there, I personally, want my computer to look the best it can look. I believe most people here believe the same thing. Why would they use a cursor on their computer that looks worse than the Windows XP default? Look, sop worrying about the ratings. The fact is, they don't matter. What matters is whether or not your work is worthy of belonging on someone else's desktop. You post your cursors on Wincustomize, and you whine about low ratings on them. Because of this, I gather that you want people to enjoy your cursors and use your cursors. Naturally, if you want to make cursors for other people, you should make cursors that other people will like. So, when a fellow member of wincustomize tells you to improve something, you should listen. Because naturally, their approval of the skin is really what matters to you, right? Otherwise, these cursors would have only seen your desktop and not be on an internet site.

Long story short, just as a company should value the wishes of a customer, you as a skinner should value the wishes of your audience.

As for your name, I'm quite surprised alot of people are "offended". I don't see how a person can be offended by that. Boo hoo... his screenname is IMGOD. Oh my, he's really challenging my religion now. Give me a break guys. Obviously, some people need to become more secure with their beliefs.

However, I AM NOT defending your nickname. I, too, skip over your cursors most of the time. Why? is it because I'm offended? No way. The nickname IMGOD is simply immature and childish. Honestly, I don't want something an imature child has made on my desktop. I want quality.

I don't care if you change your name or not, but I'm sure alot of people just see you as immature for having a name like that, and because of that fact alone, you WILL NOT become a respected member of this community.

It would be a shae to see someone who might possibly become a good skinner fall through the cracks because of something stupid like that, but hey, it WILL happen. I suggest changing your name, but if you don't want to that's fine. Just don't expect respect from this (or any other) community.

Good luck buddy.

I think we are beating a dead horse trying to tell him anything.... he's not listening. He is only interested in validating his own point of view. And once his 15 minutes of fame is over with this mildly entertaining yet abysmal controversy, his work will still be of the same bad quality (because he will not heed any criticism, no matter how constructive or nicely put). It will still get low ratings, and he will continue to whine about his "persecution" and proclaim his self-righteous opinions until he is either banned or focuses his attention on plaguing some other community. He just doesn't get it.

It doesn't threaten my "religion" in the least. But if someone were to call themselves "IMHITCH427" and then act arrogant and childish in your name, you would be offended as would your wife or kids or anyone who is associated with you. Can you understand that, Hitch427? In addition to that, if one believes in God and believes in the teachings of God, then they know that the Bible says "I the Lord your God am One. You shall have no other gods before me". Also the whole scenario that I described in comment #29. It is his right to have whatever name he chooses, but please don't tell me that I cannot be offended when a belief that I would die for is mocked.

I for one am not offended by the nick...takes too much effort...not my call...and i remember being taught 'Judge not lest ye be judged". It's one reason I don't rate a lot {it's okay to take that both ways}.

For all I know, HE had him use that name just to test our reactions and composure (or lack of it).

I do agree, irregardless of his attitude and some of his comments... offerings such as THIS SUCKS, THIS IS AWFUL, etc have no real bearing. They don't explain why. I do find overly large or rounded cursors not fit for MY taste or use. However I am using one of IMGs now 'Lock on Advanced'. Shrunk 50% it looks kinda interesting.

I did leave a comment on that one. I have not on others. I thoght about it, but after seeing some of the comments I figured he wouldn't bother to keep reading until he got to mine. Basically, it was the attitude of others that caused my inaction. I'm not even happy with the comment I left, since I could only offer criticism without viable steps for correction.

I see all the ratings 1-5 because 1) what if it's only been out a day? ratings can go up or down depending on the number of ratings and I am cynical and believe there are some who would play favoratism or spite and I will not let them cause my eyes to be shielded. & 2) I DON'T KNOW HOW TO SET THE DAMN THING!!
Erk.

"IMGOD5552666" is not sufficiently of a contentious 'name' to warrant change.

It is not about 'free speech', more about 'insignificance'.  What rankles is some verbal responses which try to push the limits of common respect and decency.  Those can/will be handled.

Certainly by now the originator of this thread has a fair understanding of the general 'feeling' and ideally this [thread] could be 'closed'....however the 'close/lock' button is conspicuous in its absence.

Nothing is/will be gained by perpetuating this thread.

I think it's well past 'time' for all to move on to more rewarding endeavours....
