WARNING- Upgrade Rightclick and LOSE your customization

Wednesday, December 1, 2004 by Lantec | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Just a warning before you upgrade via SDC.
I updated this morning and lost all my cusomization back to the "base" menu.
I backup on update so if someone can tell me which files to retrieve from my backup to restore the 3-5 days I spent modifying the menu I'd appreciate it.

I seem to have dodged that bullet.......... just updated, and rebooted, and all is fine.

I think the file you're looking for might be desktopmenu.obbar

Hope that helps.

Went smooth for me too. Updated fine, kept all my customizations.

I guess I should of rebooted. I overwrote the desktopmenu.obar as you suggested, and the main menu is there, however all the submenus (which are already in the bars directory) are not "connected" (don't know if that's the right word) to the command on the main menu. It also has lost the left side offset (font) on some commands but not the ones which have a icon associated.

Was rightclick loaded when you updated?? Mine was unloaded.

Yes, RC was loaded when I updated. Not that it helps much, but I feel your pain.

I'm guessing that having it active during the update somehow "protects" the desktop menu.

Looks like I'll be spending a few hours on sub-menus.

Thanks for your help.

I think I know what the problem is............ there's no way to 'save' a theme in the config dialog. The only time I'm ask if I want to save my setup is when I restart the computer. If I miss that dialog at shutdown, all my changes are lost.

I believe your right. I had added that to the wish list in the thread a couple months ago when it was first posted.
Hopefully a "save theme" and an export theme ability will be included by ver 1.0

I never even see that dialog. I had gone through the trouble of customising Right-click at least three times and every time I reboot everything is lost. I had hoped that a save feature was added for this build but it doesn't seem to be the case.

I will wait until this is done before I will use it again.

FWIW I only ever saw it during shutdown or restart (and only after some changes were made) BUT it was only displayed briefly before being usually hidden behind one of those "ending program" dialogs.

If you cancel that dialog the Rightclick save dialog can be properly clicked.

I also had RC unloaded when I updated and lost all customisations - luckily they weren't extensive and thus easy to re-create. I think a 'save/load theme' option is a good idea.

So the question is : Why isn't there a 'save' button somewhere ? It is somewhat essential, isn't it ? I never saw that dialogue either, so Rightclick was unusable for me.

I get the following error when trying to install right-click. Anybody have any ideas?

"C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\data\public\rc\beta\rc.xml 0 (Error creating/opening the target file, code: -11)
Result: Installation failed"

Never mind. I found an empty folder ( rc ) deleted it and it worked fine. Weird.

Okay, at least it seems it saves it's configuration now.
