Weird problem when using any theme...

Monday, November 29, 2004 by RLC Lover | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I get these weird array of dots and lines on parts of my theme. I am currently using the Alienware ALX Suite. The same problem occured with Window Blinds. On most themes, I get these dots and lines on parts of the theme. For example, when you enter the start menu and into Programs and highlight something, within that highlights bar, I get an array of random dots.
I checked to see if I was running in 16 bit mode but I'm running on 32 bit. The problem goes away if I change the refresh rate or resolution. But it returns again if I restart! Can anyone help me out? I'm using Windows XP Home btw.

OK, the problem DOESN'T go away when I change resolutions, bit color or refresh rate. Less dots but you can still see some and the lines appear when you highlight My Computer or others in the start menu. Someone please help!

It could be a problem with the drivers for your graphics card. I had a similar problem, and that was the culprit. Check the manufacturer's site for updated drivers to whatever video card you're using.

Thanks to danilloOc, he's the one who helped me figure it out.

Well, I'm using the latest drivers out for my card which are the Catalyst 4.12 betas. Hmm...

Catalyst 4.12 betas

Could be the fact that you're using BETA drivers....... roll back to a release version.

betas

That can be the problem. Install the latest final release and not an alfa or beta release. That's why they are called that, so they can be tested for errors.

How odd. I uninstalled my drivers then rebooted. The dots and lines weren't there at all. But after I install another set of drivers They come back but to a lesser degree. So it is a driver problem I'm guessing. Guess I'm stuck until ATI releases another set of drivers.

You probably need to roll back further....the one you now use may still be a beta with similar/same problems...
