I have noticed that Window Blinds causes programs to open with about 3/4 inch space on the botton and the same amount cut off of the top. I switched to XP default to see the difference and all the windows maximize correctly. I have found the only way to solve this is to minimize a window and then maximize it again. This is rather a pain. This is something I just noice in the last few days. I also attached a new digital monitor. Because of that I try the XP and discovered the problem is not there with it. Are there settings, etc. I can change that will change this so that all my windows properly open up maximized. I sure could use some help like yesterday. Thanks so much.

If you just noticed this problem in the last few days, and you just attached a new monitor, maybe the monitor is causing it. Maybe there are new files associated with the system now too. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling windowblinds?

hmm-

Im going with a Drivers suggestion. You might want to make sure that you have up-to-date drivers.

I have tried uninstalling WB and this did not make a difference. I will check on the Drivers. This is a Samsung 173P with DVI connect. I did use the drivers from the disk but will check Samsung site. Why would the XP schemes be okay and not cause this problem, but installing the WB and using does? Anyone have any more suggestions or ideas? Thank for all your help. This is slowly driving me crazy.

Just downloaded the driver (which I believe was the same) NO change? This monitor is controled changed by software only. No controls on the unit other than power. All the adjustments, etc. are through a software program. This is a great monitor with bright, vivid colors with tons of great reviews. HELP.

Dual monitor, or still single?

This is a single monitor, but I believe you can connect between the analog and DVI and go back and forth via one or two clicks of the power button. I did just discover it IS one of the software programs. There are three included. Unfortunately, I do not see where I can prevent the software from starting, but I can exit it after startup. I will call Samsung to see if there is another way to disable the startup without causing video problems. I sure do appreicate the responses and help everyone is setting my way. I will keep it posted on the software situation. Thanks again, guys.

Yes, it might be a software issue with your new monitor. Did you have this isssue with your other monitor?

There might be one area in Skin Studio. I am thinking about the attributes, "MaxBorderCutTop" and "MaxBorderCutBottom". These are attributes in the Border section of SS. Good Luck.

Do you have any other stuff running, like desktopX, that can reserve screenspace?

I called Samsung and they told me the "Magic Tune" software is not necessary, so I will uninstall this. They told me with a digital monitor all the adjusting is done through the video card. I purchased a new card for the DVI. I got a MSI NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700LE. Any idea how this is done??? The picture is near perfect. I noticed about 1/4 inch black area on the top of the screen and about 1/8" black on each side. I do have a number for MSI, so I will call also. I do not have desktop X running and I did not have this problem when I had the analog monitor. I will also check into the Skin Studio, but I am not very familiar with that program. I see if I can figure it out. Thanks again, guys!

you need to adjust the screen size using the buttons on the monitor.

NO buttons on the monitor, but the power! All is controlled from software or video card and I have not figured out how to do the video card controls.

Is it just the one skin that cause the windows to not expand fully? Skins can be set to size any way you want. Maybe the skin you are using has the screen edge clips set to a negative value.
Did you update your windowblinds recently?
If it was the monitor then you would be having the same problem when using the default XP theme I would think.

I had this problem with any skin I used. I uninstalled WB today and then redownloaded and installed WB with its latest update of yesterday. It appears it is the MagicTune software of Samsung. When I exit out of that program, all is well.

Ah, then you may contact customer support if it is a problem with the software, and maybe they will eventually come up with a update to fix the problem. But, if it is a black area, then maybe you can adjust stretch the screen size to fix it. I always have to adjust the screen size on my new monitors. It took me weeks before I was happy with the settings on my new monitor.

If the magic tune software doesn't add anything that you want, why not just disable it in msconfig?

ChasUGC: I would like to adjust the screen size, but have been told by Samsung it has to be done via the video card since this is a DVI input. Any ideads how that is done? I have a MSI video card and am waitin for a call back from them. Hard to say when that might be. I uninstalled the Magic Tune software. It also does adjust the brightness so I may have to put it back on and than disable thru MS config. Right now it is pretty good looking except for the very little black lines. I have never heard of adjust through the video card so I am at a real loss on that one.

ut oh, the last time I got those, my video card was toast. I probably did exactly what you did too. I got a new monitor.

Heck, we can always use a new monitor, especially if it is larger.

Then, I had to buy a new videocard.

ChasUGC: I bought a new video card specificly to work with the DVI monitor. It is a MSI (NVIDIA FX5700 LE) which I was told was good. Any ideas?
