I'm stumped: .bootskin v. .ini
Wednesday, September 15, 2004 by TunieV | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
I open Bootskin and IMPORTED the new one I just downloaded (ISeeYou.bootskin)into the Bootskin program. It tells me the import was successful but the new one does not appear in the list in the Bootskin program. Instead a file named ISeeYou.tmp was created in the folder where I initially downloaded the new bootskin (My Received Files folder.)
I then tried double clicking the ISeeYou.bootskin file and get a window that advises it can't find Bootskin.exe - makes sense.
Then I COPIED the file to my Bootskins/skins directory, started the Bootskin program, still not in the list.
What the heck am I doing wrong?? Thanks for any assistance.

Why are some of the bootskin files names .ini files and some .bootskin? When I first started using Bootskin and downloaded some from WinCustomize they were all .ini files. Now they are all .bootskin files which don't seem compatible with the Bootskin program.
Only the .ini files with accompanying .bmp files seem to work with either version (1.0 and 1.5) Files named .bootskin do not appear as available when I start the Bootskin program and I don't know how to apply them otherrwise. Not a big deal really, I'll just delete the whole deal if no one has a simple answer to a simple question. Or maybe I'm just plain stupid or not explaining this correctly.
TIA

I'm not sure what you're asking, but I'll take a shot .............. all bootskins must contain an ini file. That's the text file that tells the program where all the pieces are, and what to do with them. A .bootskin file will have 1 or 2 bmp files, and an ini file. It is the whole skin in a package. (.bootskin is actually a renamed .zip) To install a .bootskin, you simply double-click it. Does this help?
