files won't open and others will not install

so far everything I want to download will not open. I get the message that windows can not open this file. To open this file windows needs to know what program created it.
Other files when I extract the zip files do nothing. No self install and no exe. anywhere.
Help! What am I doing wrong here.

thanks! actually skins is the only thing that works. I have downloaded windowblinds. The ones I am having problems with is sysMetrix, logons and wallpapers.

The files are called 'skins' ...they are designed to be applied via their respective applications...eg Windowblinds skins will require the Windowblinds proggy.
Just like winamp skins require winamp.
If for example Windowblinds the proggy is installed....double-clicking on a 'skinname.wba' file will actually install the skin for you....
