Problem with latest Window Blinds Beta

Tuesday, August 31, 2004 by StageMan | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I just downloaded the latest Beta of Window Blinds and I am having a problem with the start menu. Basically I can see the first level of programs just fine, but if I open one of the sub levels, there is no text. I've tried many different skins all with the same result. As soon as I unload window blinds, everything is happy again. Where should I report bugs?

Thanks.

We've seen a couple reports of this, trying to track it down.

There appears to be a problem with some menus for some people - this has been reported on the newsgroups as well.

ServicePack 1 or 2 or none? What video card? Hyperpaint on or off? Does it happen with Blackcomb? Menus set to fade or scroll? Menu shadows on? Menu borders on?

Sp2, Radeon 9600 (ATI 4.8 drivers), Hyperpaint or not, Blackcomb and all I use, Menu borders on. I do not know where to change for menus fade, scroll and shadows.

Same problem here. It started with WB 4.39c[rc].002. The surprising thing is that even if you restore WB to an earlier build or last stable release the problem remains. The "All Programs" menu is skinned but the menu does not appear whether by pausing over or clicking. Even if you change skin, the fault is not rectified. Like StageMan, WB has to be unloaded for the start panel to work correctly. The Start Menu items in the Documents and Settings Folder for each user appears correct. If you adjust visual settings for best appearance, the shadow under menus can be seen but not the menu itself, i.e, the shadow without the menu. On adjusting visual settings for best performance the conflictive all programs menus does appear fine. Despite enabling/disabling basic settings and User Overides in WB Configuration the menu in question is nowhere to be seen. Ciao...

Seems there is an update on SD Central now that fixes the problem - at least for me....

I had to uninstall windowblinds first and then install the newest build. All is fine after a reboot.

Yep, that's what I did. Uninstalled WB, reboot, install the update, reboot. All is well

This happened to me right after I installed SP2 The installation of SP2 really messed with my video drivers as well but I removed and reinstalled those with the same results.

I uninstalled WB and reinstalled the non beta version and all is well now.

If this helps to remedy the problem my specs are
WinXP SP2
P4 3.2 Ghz
1 Gig Ram
Nvidia Geforce 6800GT 256 Meg 61.77 drivers

SP2, Radeon 9800 Pro. I back tracked to the last stable version and things are better. I'll try to grab the latest ATI drivers tomorrow and reinstall the beta and report.
