Girly skin suites?

Saturday, July 31, 2004 by Chickie | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I was wondering there's so many "boyish" skin suites. Why can't we have girly skin suites? Will there be some girly suites in the future? I'm just curious.

Starone has created some excellent skins that might suit Mrs Chickie.

Chickie, you can be as 'girly' as you like

It's up to you guys (sorry, girls), to upload what you like....

I'm with you on this one Mrs Chickie, there aren't enough out there. At least not ones that are a soft pastel color, most seem to bright to me. Of course, I couldn't create one if I tried so I guess shouldn't complain too much.

True. I tried Skin Studio. It was too complicated for me. I do have some girly skins. I'm all set for now.

Chickie, what is it that you want? I've been wanting to create a new skin but can't come up with a theme.

Melanie, since Hello Kitty is celebrating 30 years. I know about copyrights. Could ya please a Hello Kitty WB skin?

MGiff,

All you have to do is not use any of the images that Hello Kitty has (or logos)

Not to turn this into a copywrite debate or when does fan art turn into thievery, but if you stick the the Hello Kitty theme colors, and maybe have an abstraction of the shape, you can have a skin.

Take a look at this:
https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=1&SkinID=4417

While I wouldn't agree with the image of Winnie being used (unless it was somehow drawn, the personal drawing scanned, or some abstract of form) in the theme, in my opinion, doesn't trounce on the copywrites of the original author and can be concluded as fan art. (Also keep in ming just how long Winnie the Pooh had been around).

So, give that a shot.

BTW, I have a skin called Pink Luna. One day I plan to update it in all of its pink-ness.

Thank you Joe, I appreciate the input. Are you referring to the Winnie pic on the log off screen? I was thinking about just a muted background shadow of kitty, that do you think?

I'm always on the lookout for a more feminine looking wb.
While there are some out there, for the most part I've noticed if they try to make it "girlie", it ends up being too bright, too pink and garish.
Though there ARE some really great feminine skins that don't fit that description. I wish there were more like flora by john gudger, rose in satin by mgiff(melanie you have such talent!),.then of course as mentioned before, there's the starone collection... really beautiful work no matter how old the wb is, you still want to dl it.

I watch every day for something beautiful , but not too fussy to add to my collection.

as to the hello kitty thing... is it impossible to get permission from the copyright holder to create a skin using their artwork as it's basis? I know many companies(especially disney, shocked that pooh made it through without incident.) are very strong in their belief that only they have use of their copyrighted material, but some companies are more willing to allow a little artistic license if asked first.
suppose it couldn't hurt to ask, if it hasn't been asked yet. and to find out if they are adverse to an indirect reference to their artwork, if not the actual logo.
it'd add credence to the wb to have permission from the owner to create such.

Good idea, wulfn1, I'll research that. By the way, I already have the basic outline of the skin. White with pale pink buttons.
