Bought a used 21 inch monitor(200 bucks),two sticks of 256 DDR memory(49 apiece),a 2400+ processor(99 bucks).A successful bios flash,and voila!A new pc!
Now how do I hook up two monitors to this baby?Hmmmmmmmmm...wonder if you can stick 2 video cards in one pc?

So, since my card has a normal output, a DVI output and an S-video out, I could have three monitors hooked up? Cool.....

I already have a TV out and tuner but turning that on auto changes the resolution to 800x600 and both monitor and TV have the same image.
I want to do the split screen thing.....working image on the big monitor and tools on the small.

I've got a Geforce FX 5200. 19" on the main out running 1600x1200, my old 17" on
the DVI out running 1280x1024. The software that comes with card allows me to
span the desktop across both monitors, but have seperate wallpapers.

Ain't that the truth. I recently bought a new (used) monitor to replace a dying monitor and I ran dual on them. The old one crapped out last night and now I'm sad.

lovesblessing keeps her second screen, a 20 inch LCD upstairs attached to the biggest Holy Cow I own now! There's not room on the downstairs desk to go with 20 inch flat screen CRT! The laptop has it's own desk space as well.....!

I had Dual 17"s and one Died, So I ended up with a 17" and a 15", then My 17" Died, My wife only runs 1024x768 so She was happy to take the 15", and Give me a 17" Back, Now I Have a New HP Laptop and it has the wide Screen, and I had to get used to 1280x800, that took some getting used to. Now through the Miracles of MS Remote Desktop, most of my machines are headless. Dual Desktops are the greatest. Also Once you cross the 1.5 to 2 GHZ Area there is hardy any going back there as well. To think back to the days when I upgraded from my DX to a P90 and thought that was fast, and then a P166, crossing the GHZ Barriers, 1+ and 2 is like stepping into First Class on Airplane, and realizing noone cares how far you stretch out your tootsies.

First I'm jealous of all you hotshots running dualies out there and me stuck with my silly old 1/2 ton....jeez just think of the runs I could make to the dump with a nice dualie setup If'n by chance a second monitor should happen to fall from the back of a passing Fedex truck (we have ways of making stuff fall out the backs of trucks here....have you ever had to play 52-pickup with a bag o'trash that bounced out the back of yer pickup on the way to the dump > ), but I digress....If'n you already own an ATi video card with the dualie setup (video and tv) how you go about fixin her up to run dual monitors? What control do you have over screen resolution when your running different size monitors?

Is that like when you get on down to the bar and get all liquored up and you pick up an ole emachine running a celeron with no monitor and you wake up in the morning wondering what the hell is that sitting on my desk. So you go and cover it with a blanket and go back to bed hoping that she'll be gone when you wake up later in the morning...but I digress....does it mean running more than one machine of a single monitor/mouse/keyboard? If so how's that set up and what the oldest OS you can be running on a headless machine?

Ess,I dont think you can...(I couldnt with mine,ATI rage 128 pro)Newer ones may be resolution independant.Mine would automatically switch both monitors to 800x600 and just show 1 desktop...it was great for watching XVIDs tho...good as satellite tv.

Yes, or you can get a video card with a TV output, and an adapter to use the TV out for the second monitor. That's what I did.
