Suggestion for a new WC area

Monday, July 26, 2004 by CarLBanks | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

We need a good screensaver area. It's hard to find good adware/spyware free screensavers.

Screensavers are executable content...so can harbour virii and therefore won't be hosted here....

Ahh, wish someone could make a screensaver program with non-executables!

So until a program is made, I'll have to use the 3D Windows XP screensaver...

Modern monitors [CRT] don't need screensavers....they're a relic from history...

Screensavers don't protect screens anymore. They are just "pretty", but then again that's the whole point of customization isn't it?

Modern CRT monitors are largely proofed against burn-in, the reason why screensavers were developed - this together with modern computers being able to hibernate or powerdown when unattended has made them, from any practical point of view, a relic from history.

Obversely LCD screens have pixels which are on when they are black and it has been suggested may in fact be damaged by the excessive use of some blackscreen screensavers.

Leastways that's how I understand the overview.

(mind you I've got a great LCARS screensaver that rocks on my laptop - and I just gotta launch it from time to time )

Yup, I think thats the one Cerebro. But for a quick injection of humour to my funny bone I go for the dancing baby (from Ally McBeal) there was even a short babyborg version.

All a total waste of time and hard-drive of course - still quite pleasing to come across them again during maintenance and clean up.

We really need to make "skinnable" screensavers. Something like my XXSvgSaver, but maybe with some more options.

I still don't get why animated wallpaper using desktop X hasn't taken off yet. There is only 6 thmees in the libray. Frogboy's castle wallpaper was the first thing I saw on this site and I was hooked.
