Mac VS PC. An objective analysis.
I think I can say that most of us know what a Mac is. I think I can't say we all have the same opinion abou them.
Ok, so this was the deal. A friend of me just has a new mac. Ofcourse I couldn't resist to test 'this baby' myself.
He has a new G5, worth $2000.
As I entered the room I saw it standing ontop of the table next to the monitor... A normal pc would be hidden under your desk so its out of view but nooo, this was ontop of the table, almost as if it wanted to say "behold my shiny design".
And yes, I have to say, the design is great.
My friend left the room and as I couldn't resist any longer so I wanted to try some futures... I mean, for $2000 you expect atleast 2000 great futures.
The best thing I could think of at that moment was a nice cup of coffee so as I sat there I asked the 'can you please make me a cup of coffee....... nothing.
I was confused. Thinking the microphone was probably broken I typed 'can I please get a cup of coffee'?
Same thing... Nothing, it just sat there on top of the table being pretty.
Well, the next best thing was a simple sandwitch but when I requested the Mac to create one for me he also wasn't capable to perform this simple task.
I couldn't understand. How can a computer that cost $2000 not even create a simple cup of coffee? I mean, where did the extra $1000 went into this mac?
Well, so being there without any food or drinks I tought I could just as well do some seriouse testing and leave the gadgets for what they were. Other than the Dock Panel that slammed me in the face time after time it was quite easy to handle. So I created a simple movie file in adobe after effects and screamed to the machine at the top of my lungs to render it... yeah, the speaker defenatly had to be broken, so I clicked the render button and.... well....
I can tell you this about it. In the time the machine had rendered my movie I could get myself atleast 3 cups of coffee with a dozen of sandwitches.
I couldn't see what the big fuzz of having a mac was all about. The machine was damn slow. Quite understandable as it took microsoft about 5 years, a gigantic team of coders/engineers and a couple of millions to get the multi tasking right. The smaller group and budget mac has to work with would probably need that time to get the start button working
So lets say this about it:
The mac isn't as fast as people promise, cant perform the tasks he should do for the money you paid for it.
If you want to render photoshop filters all day its the perfect machine for you but if you want to do the real editing.... get a pc.
As for the design... not sure who said it but it was something like this: Great design, I really like the handlebar on top of the machine, thats because you can attach a chain to it and use it as a boat anchor!
BTW: if do not agree with my opinion... I am not going to argu about it cause this are my experiences so dont bother.

Mac's don't make coffee, they help you to find information to make coffee, or draw coffee. It is also possible to do other desktop editing like making a coffee commercial or a flash website.
Mac's also look better externally than most PC's and goes with the home decor including the coffee cup.

Anyone wanna give me $30Mil US so I can start a revolutionary computer company? I swear I will finally end this stupid debate of what is better. 
Hus plays dumb...but is really a mad genius. I actually do have ideas, and I might even start doing it...granted, not with $30 million dollars...but hey, most of that is for advertising anyway.

I'm the proud owner of a Mac......had to get in with the IN crowd so I paid 5 dollars [Aus] for it....came with all the groovy stuff.....extra external drive...printer...dinky one button mouse....but alas, no software.
So...
I'm in the market for another one....cos then I'll have matching bookends.
Oh yeah, it's the original 'pc'....Apple 11e...

One thing for sure, I'll have Stardock apps pre-installed...running on XP. That's because you need XP to make the greatest PC in modern-day history. Think you can handle it, Cerebro?

Anyway, I like Mac's and I always have. All the apps I would use for design are on it, but I hear trouble is in the works... Adobe is having a change of heart??? MacroMedia too???

If I were to make my own OS, it would no longer be the best computer ever, but a rather large paper-weight. What would you do with an OS that has no software?
My whole point was that it's not about what Macs can do better than PC's, it's what enables you to get the job done. A PC has purpose...it's all about form and functionality, I think Apple relies too much on form. If they really wanted to make a splash in the OS market, they would develop OSX for x-86 processors...

I think you're being a little harsh, Styl Skinner. New Macs with OSX are at least as fast as similar PC's, if not a little faster even. There is this Mac at work (paid over 6,000$ CAN for it), a new G5 dual processor, 4 Gigs of RAM, all the works. It's fast. No arguing. I've never seen anything so fast in computing. But then again, it better be fast for 6,000 friggin dollars!! You should see it open a 1 Gig PSD in 5 seconds flat!!
But you could probably get something just as fast if you spent 6,000$ on a PC too.
I believe that Mac and Windows are par in perforance and reliability right now. Maybe OSX is a notch ahead as far as it's neat interface and the totally smooth animations are concerned. Can't wait for Longhorn!!

paxx, thats what I mean. The standard MAC will not be delivered with enough ram, to have it fast you just need to add some ram yourself witch will cost you more money. I was just talking about the price, can't see the extra stuff it has for the $1000 it costs more then a pc....

Wasn't there a couple of MAC Clones? Might have been older systems they were cloning and I seem to remember Apple really throwing a fit about it back in 1995.
paxx, exactly so, I checked out a Dual G5 with the 23 inch Cinema Display at CompUSA. ZOOM ZOOM!
My heart was pumping hard in my chest, my eyes had expanded to the size of Grapefruit with one eyebrow twitching, my hands started to sweat and then my Wallet started to feel like it had slipped into a Blackhole which was draging me back to reality faster than it had slipped away. Totaly dejected I tuened my back and started to walk away only to turn back so I could take one final look and it hit me all over again. Later in the car my wife asked me why I seemed so depressed and all I could think to say was "I want a new toy that you won't let me have". Then I explained it all to her and she laughed for the 15 mile ride home everytime she looked at me.
Braces for 9 year old daughter, Boat, Home Remodeling, In style cloaths, Prom, Car, for daughter over the next 10 - 12 years, Vacations, once that is all done I can actually have one of the $6000.00 - $10,000.00 MAC's of my own.
Hell makes me feel like Garth in "Waynes World: Oh yes, one day, one day it will be MINE"...

Oh they did that on the screen savers, its very hard to find parts, one place has the cpu other another thing.
Putting mac Mobo in ATX case screw holes dont line up you need to use small Zip Ties.
Its like calling ford and insisting you want to build a Taurus your self.
A PC is like resoring a GTO and puting rocket lauchers and ejection seats.
If you cant handle the power stay with Mac , Mac users will never experience the joy that we hardocre pc user have.

Don't think I can be hardcore - not much power in mine - its hooked up to the wifes exercise bike and if she stops pedalling the cpu stops working

lol,I just never stop spending even though Canadian computer parts more expensive.
Recently got 475$ speakers
Just ordered Asus tv tuner with remote like 90$ and 120$ logitech webcam.
I cant stop! lol.
And thats just on student pay.

Way more stuff for PC then Mac.

I know what you did wrong - you have to pick up the "mouse" and speak clearly into the bottom of it
