Is there any solution for the "BootSkins killed my pc" syndrome?

I noticed a LOT of people had the no-start problem after installing BootSkins, like myself. Some said they even went as far as re-installing their OS.. me I just uninstalled BS in safe mode & voila! My PC started up just as it always has for years.. why did BS make my PC unbootable? Can you tell me that young fella?

your BIOS is probably the root cause...

Mother Boards from different Companys tweak and twist BISO Chips as needed, not all fit the standard...

BootSkin has little to do with your BIOS. It hooks into ntoskrnl.exe and overlays it with an image. If anything goes wrong there, it probably has something to do with your video card.

crae, when you go to the site for Bootskin is states to try two older versions of BootSkin if the newest does not work on your system because of some issues with system BIOS.

Alternative Versions:
Some drivers and bios makers "break the rules"
which can cause BootSkin to not work correctly.
If you experience that, you can try these
alternative versions:
BootSkin 1.02 BootSkin 1.03

IP is definitely correct on this one craeonics. Until your OS takes over the BIOS is providing the video capabilities for your system. As Frogboy has stated in the past the problem stems from some BIOS manufacturers not adhereing to the standards when implementing their VESA drivers. So, Phydeaux_3 the solution is either change your mobo or don't use BootSkins it's really as simple as that..

Yes, Frogboy stated that one version works for most people (I think it was 1.02) while an update did not (1.03).

I found it strange myself, but that's software for ya!

I never used BS (Bootskins) before because I was too scared and they always said to those who used it take caution... like CAUTION!

So I took caution and didn't install it.

I am glad to here that you got your PC running again though.

why don't you try using BootXP instead. its not a freeware mind you but it is an excellent Bootskin replacement. though it lacks features like Wincustomize's BootSkin. Try it.

I thought BootXP tweaked system files. Not a good thing. Although I could be wrong.

I have used Bootskin in the past because I knew it would not harm my system.

BootXP replaces the NTOSKRNL.EXE file.  I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

That's what I thought Koasati. Why one would "pay" to basically hack up and screw up their system is beyond me.
