Geometry question

I need to buy some soil for my backyard. I removed my pool, and now I'm left wih a big hole that I want to fill with soil. I'm trying to determine how much I need. The hole is 15 feet in diameter and about 6 inches deep.
I found this formula on the Net: V = π r2 H
Does this mean: 3.1416 x (90 inches x 90 inches) x 6 inches = 152 681.76 cu. in. ?

Is this what I need over 150 thousand cubic inches of soil? Sounds a lot...

Anybody who knows geometry or gardening could confirm this to me please?

You will most likely be getting the dirt in yards. You will need around 4.25 yards. Don't calculate it as a circle. Do it as a square. This will account for the extra needed for compaction. You may be able to get by with 4.0 yards but it depends on the soil. If its gravely then go for the 4.25. If its sandy , go for the 4.0. Hope it helps.

that's because cubic inches are very small, there are 46,656 of them in a cubic yard

That reminds me of the time I wanted to do a gag gift on my sister. Long story short, I needed to weigh down a wrapped up gift certificate with a brick. Well, I don't know if you've ever tried to purchase a single brick but I had to take a little order card up to the front and get laughed at by the clerk. Then I had to drive around to the back to get my brick, where I was laughed at by the loading dude.

Thanks Night Train.  When you say "yard" you mean cubic yard probably, right?  I'm not sure what they'll sell it as actually, in Canada we're usually metric. So, probable some cubic meter or something. A meter is not too far from a yard anyway.

Tiggz, even in feet I thought it looked like a lot. I forget what it was but it was a good number of hundreds. 700 or so I think.

4.5 x 4.5 x 0.15 = 3.03 Cubic metres.....ask the 'guy' for 3 metres of soil, Patric...and you'll be fine...
