IMPORTANT! Wallpapers used in screenshots MUST be 'sufficiently' obscured....
Thursday, June 24, 2004 by Jafo | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
This took about 10 minutes to 'extract' and clean up to re-use as a 1024x768 bitmap of reasonable quality......would have been faster except I forgot there was a cursor to be removed....
Because it is quite simple to 'get' the wall from an unobscured screenshot, and IF the wall is not your own photo/art then it is arguable that even 'fair use' does not cover the image's inadvertent re-distribution by way of a desktop screenshot.
Don't be fooled by arguments about image 'quality'.....this 'altered' screenshot is third generation jpeg.....the extracted 'wall' is quite acceptable resolution/quality.
Any screenshots where it is deemed a simple matter to extract the wall image will be rejected, unless it is stipulated with the upload that it is the artist's own work.
Crediting an author will not absolve you or free you from this issue as the original artist has no direct control over your screenshot upload, ergo it violates his inherent copyright....

From the 2 screenshots of different resolutions [shown inset] I managed to 'extract' the wall....about 10  minutes.
Now, this isn't exactly an issue with the two screenshots uploaded...but does show the potential for images to be easily 'removed' when that may just violate the artist's copyright....

As long as we're not too anal about it. I agree that someone who just uplloads a screenshot of their dekstop that is basically a wallpaper being an issue.
But if they have some stuff on it, that's fine.  The booby girl screenshots I saw I would say are perfectly acceptable screenshots.

Yes, they are....as they do obscure the walls appropriately.
The amusing thing was that 2 different people obscured 2 different parts of the same wall which nullified the effort, really....

Then people want different resolutions then the upload is 12mb lol.
I wonder if there is a free app I could refer to when ppl want smaller resolutions, one that can resize and sharpen the image also, so that it wont get too blury when shrunk...

I downloaded the wall paper off this site I am totally confused here now, does what you posted here mean I can't post it?
I created the icons using the wall paper as a theme background. The Icons blend and work with the wall but now I'm afraid to post it since I think I could probably extract the wall again with about 30 mins of work.Reply #36 Sunday, August 29, 2004 3:27 PM

so I gave up and created my own wall.I don't like a windows looking desktop (if I did, I wouldn't have bought Windowbinds
) I prefer one that is an extention of my desk. When I can figure out how to upload here I'll post it.
