Has DesktopX rendered ObjectBar obselete?

I was just thinking about it... I mean, is there anything OB can do that you can't do with DX? Does it take up less resources?

on resources - i believe one could use more than the other at any moment depending on what is loaded into it. for example, a bunch of desktop x guages is going to use more than a streamlined objectbar.. likewise a very in-depth OB with nested menues will use more resources. all in all i can't, however, see OB possibly using more than desktop x i nthe long run. it is a much more simplistic program.

i've heard a lot of people say that ObjectBar is not needed if you use windowsXP, and that it's greatest use is for people running an OS earlier than XP who want to replace their taskbar with something that can just.. do more. i highly disagree with this..
i think object bar is an amazing application. although it -does not require scripting knowledge- it is pretty powerful. it can do a lot of interesting things while being relatively easy to use. sure you have to figure out it's angles, but you basically drag and drop items isntead of coding actions in.
i began using OB when i decided my taskbar was working against me. it was taking too many steps to do a common task, and i wanted to accomidate more shortcuts, and more task shortcuts, on my bar while using less space. the result was my 'simply header' object bar - the first and only thing i've created in object bar, because i accomplished everything i needed in one shot. i learned the program and build the object in just a few hours.
desktopx can do more than object bar, but that does not mean it is necesarily superceeding objectbar. wheras i think of desktopx as an entire windows desktop replacement, object bar is a taskbar/start menu replacement. you may choose to use desktopx to gain better control over your desktop and icons and have nice gauges, while object bar give syou productivity via a more intuitive interface. i use both at once on two of my machines.
the call is your own to make.. my advice is to ask yourself 'what am i trying to do with my interface'. if you're up for whatever, then just go through the library and try random things out of each to see which one you'd use more. if you're looking for a spacific operation, your answer 'do i need this or that' is narrowd down tremendously.
