Desktop icon colors?

How come no matter what I change my desktop color to, my desktop icon fonts show as white with a black shadow when I have a wallpaper applied?

Yep, XP. The option you're talking about is System>Performance>Advanced>Use shadows or something like that. Problem with that option is it gives me an opaque box behind the labels. I just want simple black text on a transparent label so that I can read my icons on the light wallpaper that I'm using but Bill Gates appears to hate me.

Yup, when you turn off the default XP behaviour, you get the older icon text behaviour (i.e., ugly).
If you have it, WindowFX will let you set the icon text background to transparent.
If you have it, WindowFX will let you set the icon text background to transparent.

The default appearance setting for XP icon text is that shadowed effect.
I can't remember the exact option name to unset that, but it will be in the 'control panel -> system' dialog, in the advanced tab, appearance and visual settings button. Somewhere in there is an option to set the icon text setting. I'm on a 2000 box at work, so I can't look to be sure.
