Australia is still Austraylya, isn't it?....New Hampshire is pronounced New Hampshah like in Shanana with the "r" silent not New Hampshire like The Shire in LOTR or New Hampsure like "Fer Sure Dude!"

... Then it''s Orstreighleah, (pronounced like as in sleigh, and a pronounced, but slightly understated ''h'' at the end of leah)
Always makes me laugh when I hear her say that!

And we Australians would only say New Hamsha....

| It's also aluminium, not aluminum......as it really IS sad that a nation perpetuates a typo..... |
I gather (by osmosis) that you are down under, Jafo. No doubt I would have as much fun at your locale as I did on a 3 month work stint in London. Perhaps, though, I wouldn't be bothered by warm beer and then searching for the "Ur-Ine-al". (post piss-up, that is).
BTW, I much prefer the post pub efficacy of acetaminophen over than of paracetimol !

the SR-71, a well known jet, was actually named the 'RS-71' but the man introducing it at its commisioning messed up. so it went down in the books as SR. that doesn't mean everyone who's ever called it the SR is wrong. things change, get evolved. but nobody has to call them on it.
you didn't say in your post that we were therefore stupid, but you've said similar things in the past implying americans are indeed stupid, ignorant, or just plain arrogent because of the different way we say or do things. ive been thinking it for a while now and its just something building up in the back of my mind. its god damn irritating and insulting to get called on every single difference between oz english and american english whether the difference comes down to a typo in a dictionary that became commonplace to a politition giving incorrect information to his own people. its two different countries, rules are different. think of Aluminum as the american word for Aluminium and move on. thanks
