I know there are a lot of graphic designer veterans out there so I have a question for you all. What program really can create bazzar abstract art? I have photoshop (along with Eyecandy, Kpt effects, Xenofex 2.0 filters)but I just can't see any of those creating awesome abstract art. An example I am talking about is this

Hmm. I am not sure what they used. But all of the Prog/filters you mentioned above have definate possibilities. I am brand new here. I am however a traditional Desktop theme author. (more wallpaper really).
I used Bryce to make my abstracts. You can look at them here:

look in the wallpaper section under abstract. Unfortunately, Bryce is pretty much as far as it will go unless someone buys it from Corel. They have no plans to update/upgrade the current vers. I also have Vue but haven't fooled w/ it much yet.

3ds max is really THE tool in the industrie... however quality dasn't come cheap.
bryce on the other hand is a good program too, alot cheaper than MAX
Photoshop can be used too but just dasn't have the quality for abstract art,

like shameless said, its not a typwriter that makes a good book. you can do a lot of fantastic things without going outside of the tool pallet in photoshop. take a sample photo or just draw a few lines.. hit it with a motion blur, or use the smear tool. play with blurring things and scattering them. lay some text, rasterize it, and stretch the hell out of it. then when you have something, play with the wave filter. thats just a couple examples.. sure you won't have 3d effects but you can come up with an interesting design. when you get good, you'll be able to create worlds.

#6 is probably made in 3ds max+photoshop but can be done in photoshop alone.

i thought i said that pretty clearly. the filter does not make the artwork. however, if he wants distortion/abstraction, he is going to need automation unless he is a photoshop master already. the way to begin is to draw something and play with it.. transform it, filter it, see what happens.
i make my own filters. because i am using a filter, is it doing the work for me? hardly. it takes skill to use a filter properly, look at the lens flare. do not make the mistake of comparing photoshop to terragen. as you pointed out, one is a generator. photoshop is not all about automation and filters, or if it was it would not cost what it cost. if thats all you've used it for, then i don't belive you have any right to contradict me. sheesh.

Having said that, the program used to make much of the item to which you linked is most likely some type of 3D program, such as 3D Studio Max, Rhino3D, Maya, PovRay, or even Bryce, among other possibilities.
By the way, a bazaar is a place lined with stalls or shops which sell trinkets, sundries, and things like paintings of Elvis on black velvet. Bizarre is strange or unusual, normally to an extreme degree. Bizarre and bazaar art are quite possible if one tries to substitute tools for talent.
