Winamp or WinMedia? Which do you prefer?

Tuesday, April 27, 2004 by eieio | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

With the number of Winamp skins being over double the number of WinMedia skins posted here, I'm curious what people prefer to use and/or skin.

Do you prefer WinMedia or Winamp? If Winamp, classic or modern? And do you skin any of them?

WinAmp for sure!!
WinAmp Modern for use
WinAmp Classic for skinning

Only the code keeps me from attempting to make a Modern skin and possibly a Media Player skin.
But strictly useing WinAmp allround, music/video.
(and have done so for the past many years)

I use both, I prefer Winamp (Modern) for music and WM for videos
As far as skinning those apps, I am trying a winamp, but I really want to keep the hair I have left

Winamp for playing audio files/CDs, Media Player for video. I don't think I'll ever use Media Player for audio, tried it once but I didn't get the right feeling like I do with Winamp.

Classic skinning is the easiest to accomplish, but some time in the future I think I'm gonna pick up some XML knowledge and try the Modern skinning method. They do look a lot nicer than a classic skin.

I use Winamp for audio stuff, and use WMP for vids.
For skinning, I actually started out my 'skinning career' on Wa2. 3/5 put me off though, bit 'too much' for me, so I've never skinned it.
And I uploaded my first WMP skin two days ago. Made thanks to Skinstudio's support for it. Otherwise I'd have never even attempted to skin it.

Falling a common feeling here it appears, winamp for music, winmedia for videos. Its not that you can't use the winamp for video and vice versa, just I find the implementation works better with each used for only those formats.
I like the notifications now in WA modern skins and overall the skins get smaller and I prefer smaller. I don't like the taskbar method that WMP has since it doesn't skin.
However still haven't found a skin I like for WA modern besides the one it comes with.

I like winamp (classic) better for music. nice simple and small, and it doesn't eat my CPU like WMP does sometimes. But I watch videos on WMP.

I like both, but I tend to use media player more. Might change now that I've really started experimenting with some of the Winamp 5 features.

WA 2.81 (much lighter) for music and Media Player Classic for video ( http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358 )

I use Winamp for everything except DVD's (Is it at all possible for Winamp to play DVD's?)

I've been using Winamp since the day it was first realeased.

I have problems with Windows Media Player...

I use WM9 and use a skin converter that I got from Microsoft to convert the WinAmp skins I like for use with it. Most work okay...some don't

I prefer Winamp and haven't really noticed much of a difference in performance between the 2.9 and 5 skins other than the 5 skins seem to load up a bit slower.

I do like WinMedia better for videos, but don't really watch that many.

Skinning WA5 is pretty code intensive (There's a lot to learn with the XML and the MAKI) but it's a quite a challenge.

I'll think I'll have to give skinning WinMedia a shot.

i much prefer windows media player over winamp, but because of its corporate aggression i can't use it to burn cd's, or cut to mp3. but i think its library interface is just fantastic. for my home machine (which burns all my cds) and my laptop (which is in an apple network enviroment 24/6) i use itunes for its wide arrange of file types, its well organized library that almost makes me feel like i'm using WMP's, and its sharing capabilities with other itunes. still havn't used the itunes music store yet, though.

I wouldn't touch WMP wit a ten foot pole. I use the old mediaplayer for the rare video occasions and foobar for audio.
