Disable EXPLORER SHELL?
Monday, April 19, 2004 by standjes | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
I'm using Objectbar for the tray icons and menus for system utilities/configs and ObjectDock for launching programs...
is it safe to disable the start of the explorer.exe service (winXP)?

when I have a lot of windows opened, I see explorer.exe is using about 20 MB of memory... while I am actually not using the explorer shell... so it would save memory!
it seems useless to have 2 shells..
hiding the windows startbar is what I always did... but the startbar is still in the memory, it is just not shown on the screen
I''ve tried it out (disabling explorer.exe) and it works so far.. I thought Tray support would be difficult but it still works!!
