Stardock OS Wanted :)

Tuesday, April 13, 2004 by Lotherius | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I'm about to shell out cash within the next few weeksfor Object Desktop most likely, and I'm already a Drengin.net subscriber. A big portion of my decision to go ahead and buy Object Desktop is due to the fact that, hell, I just like the company and the way it does business and feel I should support it.

Then I got to thinking.... There are lots of "people" who the are characterized as "pirates" because they don't pay for their OS software, or for their games. What would happen, however, if the software providers of the OS and the Games treated their customers like Stardock does?

Isn't it kindof funny that there are people out there running a pirated OS, but paying for silly little tools to customize it? Is it maybe because with the tools, they feel they're getting a better value for their money somehow? Obviously the OS is more important - without it, the computer would be pretty useless.

What if StarDock got into the OS business? You could be pretty sure it would be an awesome OS.

I'd buy it - and that's saying a lot.

i buy most every thing i use. even if i feel ripped off ...its a personal morality thing im hung up on .. but yes id most certainly buy a stardock os. or a os with stardocks stuff integrated. built in window blinds Etc..that would be killer...

the biggest problem with most oses is the unbelievably inflated price ya pay to get the darn thing ....i paid more for my last os than i did my first car . or second for that matter ...and from the way its looking il pay more for longhorn, than i did for both cars together.....

...an OS tho, WOW a lil much....how about Stardock Browser...now that would be cool...I'm sure they would come up with more features than IE and firefox put together.

stardock os.. well, wouldn't be too hard, would it? take half the guts of xp (that which makes PC programs PC and the stuff that runs them), splice it with desktopx and something to drive the graphics.

we're getting close to a Flash OS.. all you need is the stuff that runs it, and flash can ahndle the rest. imagine an entirely web connected OS. if security were no issue, that would be pretty spicey.

frogboy, you're the resident expert. how would a stardock os work?

Stardock OS? Wow. I'd buy a copy for me and everyone in my family! Object Desktop Integrated would be cool. No more stupid illegal operaitons from DX, OB and WB! I wonder if that would use too much memory, though. I've had that problem lots of times with Object Desktop running, though it doesn't bother me. I trust Stardock 100%. GO STARDOCK!

As interesting as the idea sounds I think a better approach is better integration with Stardock products. MS has worked with Stardock a little but not nearly enough. I suppose though if Stardock got too close it would be close to becoming part of MS. However if MS provided Stardock with source code it might provide a better integration of their products into the OS.
