Sput offers advice to everyone: never open attachements of any type from anyone unless you have a very good reason to expect it and the e-mail is very clearly from the right person and relates to the attachement. Even then, open it carefully - giving a good virus scanner a chance to look at it, and NEVER open anything which can execute code on your machine no matter who it's from, or how cool you think it might be. Also, run a good firewall, apply all service packs and security updates fairly promptly even if it does tie up your modem for 3 hours to download them.

Being and enterprise antivirus admin, I agree with you. However, in this case, the most recent MyDoom variant is a month old...with the original discovered back in late January. There's just no excuse for having defs that far out of date.
