AI Filter on Wincustomize
Can we filter it out
Friday, November 7, 2025 by JaSunni | Discussion: Community
I know we are all excited by AI and being able to create wallpapers and dreams with it, but I am getting fatigued by all the AI stuff. I am not saying I hate it, I am deeply embedded in the AI world myself, but it all starts to look the same after a while and I really like looking at real stuff as a break from all the artifice on my screen all the time.
So, to that end, I am suggesting a filter on the Wincustomize downloads so we can include/exclude AI generated content.

and... that's kind of my point. It seems like 99.9% of the new stuff is AI. I feel like non-AI stuff is lost in the sea of AI, that's why I would like the filter and it would inspire me to post, honestly.
I also appreciate the folks that do post and I don't want to discourage them. I do like looking at their stuff occasionally, but I'd like to be able to see stuff that is real without having to open it.

Not going to get into AI vs. non-AI "art". I'll leave that controversy for others.
If I understood you correctly...for you to have and use that filter, the artists would have to agree on a key word and add it to their work, or establish a gallery specific to AI by the use of a key word or something similar. I could be wrong about that, though.
Unfortunately, the coding of the gallery is ancient, and I honestly don't know if a new gallery can be added. That kind of architectural change would require man hours of someone's labor even if it could be done, and I don't know how many members would even want that.

If you search a gallery from oldest to newest and just ignore the past few years the vast majority will be 'real', but there will be such things as Fractals, etc that were computer made... and I remember people doing 3D generations that took days to compile, even 20 years ago plus.
Going through the galleries to retro-actively separate Computer-Gen from 'real' art is unlikely ever to happen...![]()

JaSunni, Actually if you click on explore wallpapers there are only 780 pages to go through. Seriously not that many. But here are a few I would recommend. There are wonderful photographs, digital drawings, beautiful renders. And there are alot more you just have to explore.

I've been contemplating making a bunch of classic, Photoshop-only desktop wallpapers, but I guess worry, too, they'd simply be immediately swallowed by the sea of AI around them. I'll see, I suppose. I miss the 500-layer wallpapers.

I am not a big fan of AI in general, but I kind of like some of new "art" on WC. Back a few years, most of the art was generated by fractals or some other mathematical algorithm. There have been very few artists who created digital images using only imaging software tools.
I personally like original photos that have been manipulated using imaging software. I change my desktop background every day or so unless I find something that I really like, and then it may stay for a week at most.
There are very few members left who actually create desktop backgrounds. Sed, AzDude, teddybearcholla, LightStar, Richard Mohler, and Ghzamfir54 create 99% of all the new desktop backgrounds on WC. We are lucky to have them, and I appreciate all that they do to keep WC alive with new art everyday. Adni18 was a true digital artist who created many beautiful pieces over the years, but sadly he has passed.
There are currently over 23,00 backgrounds on WC to choose from.
In closing, if you filter AI from WC there won't be much new art left to choose from. If you would like to submit your art to WC, it would be awesome to have you.
Respectfully, pelaird
