Help on Transparent items

Im currently making a windows blinds skin, and at the moment am creating an item with a transparent part. So in my picture editing program i make the part purple, but it still shows up in the skin, how do i make it become transparent?

You have to make sure that the "Transparency" box is checked as well.

After I click the transperency Box do the parts automatically become transparent, or do i have to do anything else?

I use Targas in SS/WB with Magic Pink in them all the time...never has given me any problems...

I was making a dx object and the magic pink worked but the edges had traces of pink 
is there any other color I can use?
Also i made a ufo in photoshop and it had a semi-transparent layer but i flattened it and then save-as'ed it as a bitmap. When I turned it into a dx object the priviosly transparent layer was still transparent even though i had flattened it and there was a mess of pink (only a little) and everything was just messy. 
Could someone please help me

ok I fixed the "Mess" but It still has pink around the edges

Thos pink bits around the edge come from merging the semitransparent bits in your drawing with the magic pink color when you flatten the image to save it as a bitmap. Those semi-transparent bits usually come from antialiasing or some other effect like feathering or some blur effects. ONLY pure (255,000,255 or #FF00FF) magic pink will be transparent in WB, so the pink in those merged pixels will show up.

If you use 255, 0, 255 (magic pink) it will automatically be transparent - assuming
1. it's a BMP and not a TGA
2. it's a piece that recognizes transparency (some do not, like backgrounds for example).
