Malicious script in ApptWhiteCalendar object

I tried to download the calendar object ApptWhiteCalendar and my Norton Antivirus popped up a warning that it contained malicious script. I would advise watching out for any objects submited by it's creator. >

It is a maliciious script!!! It makes you think there's a calender on your desktop, when it is really just a bunch of numbers put together and lines to codes to suck your resources. THIS MUST STOP!!!

Downloaded, and scanned ......PC-Cillin says it's fine. Running it now.......... no problems. Just another Norton false alarm.

It's more like Norton a$$uming that everyone who uses their product needs their hand held in every aspect of their computer use.. I do lots of scripting at work and it became painfully obvious VERY early on that NAV was not going to cut it as an AV scanner on that system. Every time I wrote a script that created an object that NAV objected to I was bombarded with "A malicious script is about to cause a thermonuclear meltdown!! Heed this warning or die a horrible death!" Needless to say I uninstalled it as quickly as I could..
Shadow, do yourself a favor and ignore the errors you get from NAV that concern anything you download from this site and if in the future you think there might be a script with a problem post here and ask someone else to investigate, don't just make broad claims that the author of said script is trying to pull a fast one on the community.

now... not to turn this into a Norton is evil/great thread...
But with the proliferation of internet passed worms/trojans/virus and OS exploits, do you think that 90% of the users out there shouldn't have Norton assume they no little to nothing about safe computing and what should and should not be allowed to run on their system or have access to the network (both intra and wan) ?
configuring norton is not hard and if it is found to be hard then the one configuring probably shouldn't have supervisor access to the configuration options to begin with.

No, definitely not. I would think that 90% of the users out there who are running Norton will never even see that error outside the context of a virus that is actually trying to do something harmful to their system. In which case Norton will do exactly what it should and everyone is happy. However, I don't think that the people who use DX fall into that 90% user group, and if they do then perhaps the scripts that need to store data should do so in a way that does not cause AV scanners to go berzerk. Doesn't DX Script have a mechanism for storing data without using Scripting.FileSystemObject? If not, that would be a good feature request..
Agreed, and turning the script scanning down can be useful but here at work no infected attachments ever get to my system anyway so having Norton duplicate the effort seemed a waste.

I thought of this thread this afternoon, as I installed Norton Personal Firewall......... Spyware Guard had a spaz attack as Norton installed several BHO's.... 
....... found it a bit ironic.....

I couldn't agree more, which is why I run NAV at home as well as ZA and AdAware. I do however think that it's important to understnad the tools you use and not just blindly trust that they know best.
Imagine if Koasati didn't know a little extra about Norton, and after getting the alert from Syware Guard he decided to post all over the net that Norton Personal Firewall installs SPYWARE on your system. I imagine that would give LOTS of people out there just enough to start an all out attack on Symantec for being an EVIL empire trying to collect personal data about its users.. I realize this is a bit dramatic but I'm sure you see where these things could easily get out of hand if we simply trusted these programs we use without doing a little digging ourselves..
