Transparent line under explorer ribbon

Tuesday, May 20, 2025 by jwhite2170 | Discussion: WindowBlinds

Hello,

All of my skins have this weird transparent line under the explorer ribbon.  I have tried uninstalling windowblinds and reinstalling and it is still there.  I have tried many different skins and its always there.  Any ideas what is causing this?  Below is a screenshot using Diamond skin.  Here is the weird thing though...when I went to take a screenshot, I am in Windows 11 by the way, when the screen dims to allow me to take my snip of the screen the transparent line goes away...?  I had to get the below by taking a picture with my phone of my monitor and emailing it to myself.

Thanks.

John

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know more on your system.

  1. Windows 11full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe.
  2. Windowblinds full version number.
  3. Look like your Explorer is having some minor changes done to it. Do you have any other application install that change how your Windows Explorer work?

Here is what I get when I use Diamond on my system.

  • The frame under your addressbar and search bar is darker, while on mine it should look almost same color as the Windows frame color.
  • The extend arrow lost its button on your screenshot.

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

Thanks,

Did that and the line is gone on "some" of the themes.  Like Diamond looks like this now.

However here is what Black and Grey looks like.  So does The Raven.  I believe Office was the same too.

So right now I don't see any rhyme or reason why some look right and others not so much....let me know what you think or ideas you have....frustrating.

Thank you.

Please try Clean boot as mentioned here: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1346830395/WindowBlinds+Clean+Boot. This will help to identify if there is other application that might causing the issue on your system. Do note Clean boot need to be done with extra care, follow the steps closely. Try it and report back.

Ok, I did that and when I ran the batch file I got the below message.  So I ran services.msc and started the Windowblinds service manually.  Once running I opened Windowblinds and applied my theme.  Same transparent line was present.  I tried another theme and same thing.

Do know that some skin such as Black and Grey was last updated back in 2003. I don't think these skin still fully compatible with current Windows OS. As a test, please test with current latest skin such as Criminal by LightStar or any new skins that released recently.

So I removed all my skins that have the line thinking I would just start going with new ones...like you said above.  However even new ones do it on some.  The below is from Creative Collection by SimplexDesigns.  Same issue with dialogue boxes and the explorer ribbon.  I have noticed is not the same pixel thickness, if that is right term, it is different on skins in how thick the transparent line is.  Some skins it is a very thin line and others its quite thick.

Is the issue appear on any application? I can not reproduce your issue on my system. Don't have Outlook on my system to test.

So I fixed that issue by just adding Outlook and Excel (the ones i use the most) to my exclusion list.  But the remaining issue is the explorer ribbon line.  Its there on most skins whether new ones or older unfortunately.

If the issue happen only with specific skin, have you tried messaging the Skin designer and try to figure out why that specific skin causing this issue.
