Question On Icon Packager

Monday, March 1, 2004 by MindlessPuppet | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I was curious what the largest icon size is. It seems to be 72, but I recall when I released CrudeMetals 2 some people were asking for 128x128 icons. I've started work on an icon set for the GUI Olympics and I would really hate to be wasting my time making 128x128 icons if they aren't supported.

Yeah I Didn't Think Many Would... I Suppose It May Be A Waste Of Time For The Few That Will Use It.

oops. shouldnt have said the last part, as for me, i would make it in 128 first and size it down one size at a time to preserve the quality.

Well That Was What I Intended to Do, But So Much Of The Detail Is Lost By The Time I Get To 32 That It Just Looks Bad. So I Was Drawing A Seperate Icon For 128x128 - 72x72, 64x64 - 32x32, and 16x16.

People using IconX, which is part of DesktopX can use large icons on their desktop. I use 96bit which expands to 128bit when you mouseover the icon. I think it would be important to include the full gamut of sizes in your icons

I'd go for the 128 size. Personally, I like to use the high resolution graphics with IconX and other apps.

I agree that 128 bit should be included for the IconX users out there. Quite a few icon authors also include the .png files for those using Object Dock as well. I doubt if that would make a difference in the GUIO's but it might make the package more popular among the general public. Just a suggestion, and good luck in the competition.

Please please make 128! I actually do use them and usually don't download the package if it doesn't include that size. p
