24 to 32bit?

I have a screensaver which only works when I put it on 16 bit, but I like it on 24 bit because the pictures look better. The place where I got it from says it only will work on 16 or 32 bit but I don't have 32 bit setting. What I'd like to know is there any way to get a 32 bit setting on my computer without changing a bunch of stuff? I don't know anything about this stuff so if this is a dumb question I'm sorry. ChrisDon't really know how to find type of graphic card all I could come up with is Intel 82810E graphics controller.

Check the paperwork that came with the computer, it should say there. Then do a google search and check for drivers for it.

Don't think drivers are going to do that baby any good...it's the on-board controller and has 4 MB of ram. It doesn't support 32 bit.....

yragI like the setting on 24 bit do you think I would like it more on 32 bit pictures and icons seem clearer. I have a couple of screensavers that will only work on 16 or 32 bit not 24. Do you think it would be worth it to get the new video card? Let me know, Thanks. Richard

what are the other specs for your computer? Do you have pci or agp slot, actually knowing what motherboard was would be best since it is key to what you can upgrade to

Most can't tell the difference between 24 and 32....if something will run at 16 or 32 then I see no reason it shouldn't look fine at 24. The problem in getting a new card is that you're putting it into an old (by computer standards) board. Having said that, there's no reason not to get one now and upgrading everything else later. The only thing you have to watch is that the board you have now will accept an AGP Graphics card...if it won't then leave everything as is. You can tell if you have an AGP slot by looking inside and the upper most slot will be off set farther to the right then the other PCI slots. (If you have a manual, just look up the specs)

Yrag My manual says I have agp graphics but when I talked to the guy at dell he said something about pci also, maybe I have both or is that possible anyway what do you recommend doing. He said something about it being compatible with the one I have. Anyway let me know, Thanks, Richard

depending on the motherboard you will have 4 to 6 pci slots. agp is the way to go on graphics. if that slot is there definitely use it vs. pci

You can go with either...if you have an AGP slot (you should have 4 or 5 PCI slots and 1 AGP slot) then go with the AGP card only so that, if and when you upgrade the board, you'll have the correct card (get an 8x card. They are backward compatible). I see no reason why you would have any compatibility problems with either. One thing to keep in mind is that the PCI cards are, as a rule, cheaper and will perform quite well for your needs. With what you have now, anything will show a graphics performance improvement.

AGP slots dont exist on the dell dimension 2400 (or at least the one that i have...) thats the only thing i hate about that comp, thats why i dont use it... it has built in 32 meg or 64, cant remember.

Ordered an AGP 64mb graphics card she said I will be able to set it on 32 bit, Will see, I hope she's right, otherwise I'll send it back. Thanks for all your help, Richard

If you are really lucky, an upgraded driver for your card might be enough, but otherwise it's a new card.
