What is happening is this, music files play and in the control panel sounds play, but when a sound is supposed to play (ie Close/Open Window) there is nothing (not a note).
We tried all the Control Panel, Volume, Mute settings, and even an outside program, nothing
System is XP, SB Live card, I'm sure someone here coul;d help him, if anyone can it would be a great help, thanks

#2 - check in Creative 'Surround Mixer' and make sure it correlates with your sound settings in Control Panel/Sound and Audio
#3 - look in your 'Profile ' in Sound and Audio/Sounds and make sure those sounds are assigned...you might have to create a new profile and see if that fixes it.

#1 I don't remember if I uninstalled the Dell drivers first, but probably didn't. I will try that when I get the time (it's tax season).
It's not a big deal, the sound works perfectly playing music, videos, etc. I just can't get the startup and shutdown sounds.
Thanks again,

and i have checked that the surround mixer and sound settings correlate .. they do ..when i change one the otherone does the same thing ... on all the slides.
The new profile didn't help !
But about the registry mentioned by yrag .....
I did download Regsupreme and ran it, and applied the changes it suggested.
That was around the time I lost the sounds.
Lateron I undid the reg.changes thinking it might solve the sound problem.. did not help though. (was it wrong to undo the changes made by regsupreme after more then a week)

My card seems to be an SoundBlaster Live! Value Digital according to their list. I cannot choose this from the driver list but checked all the Live! and Value driver and they all point to the driver I previously mentioned ... also tried the automatic updater and also checked the Read This First paragrafs.
But I have uninstalled the drivers anyway and first reinstalled the (old) cd-drivers and then the UniPack ... when I look at the driver-version numbers I have the latest accordingly to the creative website... should be right.
Just one thing that didnot add up... after the driver-versionnumber 5.12.1.252 there are a few more numbers ... for my pc they are 1.31.120 and at sometime yesterday I saw in the Read This First section that they said It should be, i think 1.42.xxx or 2.42.xxx but they dont go into that subject any further...
I think I have to solve this first by contacting creative and find out what is wrong there before I let you guys think any further for me.
So it might be a driver problem after all. When it is I will tell you of course, if it is not I will to...
... For now, thanx for your tips and time spent thinkin about it ...
