Turning Off DesktopX

When installing software, it always asks you to close all open programs. Is it necessary to turn DesktopX off? I have been, but would rather not if its not going to hurt anything. Opinions?

I'm with Hy_Rolr on this one. For the short bit of time it takes to install a program, it's not worth the risk of a corrupted file or some other error. I can't answer your other question, because I've never tried running anything else when I'm installing a program.

The only time you should unload DX2 is when you're updating DX2

think about it. dx will have no affect over installing files. the same goes for most programs. if you are so cautious about dx messing things up look at all the programs that run in the background normally.

From Win95 to WinXP...I have rarily shut down programs to install new software, the exception being updating something that is running. I have had no issues that I can recall. Over half of whatever you install on a windows machine asks you to reboot before using the proggy to insure that files are installed correctly anyway.

But that's just me, I really hate the problems associated with a corrupted program or file when it could have been prevented.
Then again some people may do it all the time and have no trouble whatsoever, again this is just my opinion
