im cleaning out my closet (or something similar)

Wednesday, February 11, 2004 by MadPyro | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

hey, i just wanted you all to know that, for a while, i am not going to be as active in skinning.

Reason:::
i am selling my computer and i am gonna build a new one for myself. i know it takes a while to build a computer and all and that is the reason that i am telling you all this.

another reason why i am telling you all this is because i want to know if there are any good cheap computer stores (online) where i can purchase towers, hard drives, videocards, etc. oh, and by good, i mean reliable also.

i will still occasionally check the message board from time to time and comment and all that but before i go, i will also submit a couple of skins (boots and logons)

so please, if any one knows any good online computer stores, please tell me so that i can speed up my "purchasing" process. oh, i forgot to tell you, the stores must be in the US of A. thanks.

oh, and after i am done, i will show you all what it looks like (my computer) alrightee. thanks for your help and dont forget to share your overwhelming knowledge of online computer stores.

If you are the adventurous type http://www.pricewatch.com/ will give you just about the best pricing on the internet. RTFP (Read The Fine Print) to make sure you know what you are actually getting and watch out for shipping charges

If it were me building...I'd get a barebones w/MB and CPU from one vendor and price shop for the rest. Good Luck and Have Fun

pricewatch.com .. you tell it what you want and what you want to pay, and it gives you the item and vendor list. very very useful. you have to be careful because these smaller, random companies don't have the customer service something like comp usa has.. but you can get anything for about half the retail price. just got my old man a new athlon 2800 with everything in it for 400 bucks, minus the monitor. good luck

eer.. pricewatch = esseceny's link

If you are talking about building it yourself, check out http://www.tigerdirect.com/

Check out the Barebone Kits, then add what you want, or you can just put together ALL of the pieces yourself.

Good luck!

i will keep posting questions on this thread like how much would you (anyone) pay for a 3.0 gz p4 with ht technology? is $250 too much?

also, concerning a video card;

SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9600XT Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "ATLANTIS RADEON 9600XT" -RETAIL
Chipset/Core Speed: ATI RADEON 9600XT/500MHz
$152.00
any good?

thanks.

or instead of getting a 3.0 gz, is it more worth it to get a slower one?

There are some funky lookin' cases there. Whatever you pick, look for finished edges, tooless side access, front ports (USB, Firewire) and how many fans can be installed.

I have an Antec Server case with locking side and front panel, it can handle two fans in the back, two in the front, one for the HDD and a side panel fan blow hole. The cages for the drives are tooless and pop right out and it has four 5.25 bays for DVD/CD players that slide out real easy on rails. It also came with a 430W Antec Power Supply. I got it for $130 at a computer show.

or... would Athlon XP be better since it is much cheaper than pentium 4?

Yes and no...the older processors run at a slower busspeed so you would not have too much ability to upgrade the cpu in the future. The new 3.0's run at 800 and you should have better upgradeability with the MB for it. Unless Intel pulls another stunt like they did with the 533 busspeed I have a 3.06 with 533 busspeed and no where to go unless I get a new motherboard

Buy the best quality case you can afford and you'll never need to buy another, unless ATX boards go away

ooooh, i see, so its better to get the newer ones, for speed purposes. ok, thanks. now whats the diff. between Athlon XP and P4's? other than the price?

Nothing wrong with Athlons, good CPU's, I think that they run hotter than P4's
