Making desktop X themes or objects

Ok, ive been on this site for about a month, i was wondering what programs do you use to make all these cool desktop X things?

Mostly people use a graphic editor such as photoshop, paint shop pro, or gimp. Once they have made the graphics (or before if they see fit) they create the objects and scripts if the objects need them through desktopx.

DesktopX itself (in developer mode) is used to create the objects themselves - that's the standard one you buy, no need to get the Pro version. It's a neat system. A theme is just a collection of objects packaged together.
