Adding time and other stuff to desktop HELP PLEASE

I am not new to windowblinds, but I am to some of the other things you can do. I am wanting information on how to make my desktop like some I have seen in windowblind skins. If this is not where to get this info, could someone please point me in the right direction. Thanks.

ok first give examples of what you would like to add to your desk top then we can offer the solutions...for example for a clock/ system meters you would use sysmetrix..

Desktopx or samurize or sysmetrix, and several other programs. Desktopx is my favorite of them, but samurize and sysmetrix are free. However for ease of use I would choose desktopx. So if you don't want to pay for it at least try the trial version. You can find many objects for it (time, weather, etc.) in the desktopx objects library here at wincustomize. OK, what I would like to do is put the current weather, clock, and calendar on my desktop. Pretty basic. I tried d/ling and installing desktopx and when I went to it in my programs, it make all my icon huge. Is that normal? Again, thanks for you help with this!

ahh hehe yes its normal ok if u right clik on the desktopx icon in the systray. then go configure desktop x in the menu ..in the window that pops up look fo the tab thay says icon x. in it select retain standard desktop functionality.this will put the icons back to proper size.


as for weather and clock stuff .. https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=3 these are objects for desktop x selct ones u want and download them. unzip them if they are in zip files and then double clik on the dxpack this will load them in to desktopx...

So, which is better for what I want to do? Desktopx, samurize, or sysmetrix? Oh and yes....free! Trial is OK to though.

sysmetrix is a clock/ sysmeter it can check the weather but few skins support the weather section...and its free. the desktopx i think has a trial version..i use both of these... sysmetrix for the clock/ sysmters/winamp functions... desktopx for the weather and calander.

I would think that desktopx is better. I don't think sysmetrix will do all you want. And samurize has a sharp learning curve (meaning it will take a while to figure out how to do certain things), but it will also do what you want to do. So for what you want to do desktopx and samurize can both do it. They both have pros and cons: desktopx is easier to set up and get going while Samurize is difficult if you don't know what you are doing, and samurize is free, but the normal version of desktopx isn't. In my opinion you get what you pay for when you buy desktopx, and you get more if you buy object desktop which includes desktopx and many other stardock programs, like windowblinds.

OK...I got the icons back to normal. Thanks! Now, how do I replace the calendar and clock that came with the startup of the new program to something that I want? Again, thank you all for you help! You are making this much easier for me!!!!

I think I messed up something. I went to delete the item at the top it was a thing for google search and one below it a dictionary search icon. Now it is sitting on top of my icons on the left of the desktop. I think I need to slowdown and wait for your advice!!!!!

right click on the desktopx icon in the system tray and choose new theme. then download the objects that you want from here. if they don't install automatically on download double click them and they will install on the desktop. thats it.

what happened was you deleted an object upon which others were dependent. since it went away they didn't know where to go and went where they thought they should, not where you wanted them to stay.

or you can just rt clik on the desktop x icon in the systray choose "import object " this will allow you to put single objects on your desktop without having to use a full theme .....this option will allow you to mix and match objects to your likeing....

For the calender, you want Rainlender. For the meters and clock choose Sysmetrix. For the weather, choose ObjectDock or Sysmetrix. All are free.

Here we go again! I had put the things that I wanted on my deaktop and when I restarted the pc, they were all gone. Did I miss something? And, my Desktopx icon in my sys tray was not there either. Do I have to re-do this everytime I restart my pc?? Or is there someway to lock them into place so they don't disappear? Sorry to bother you again.....

ok open desktopx, right clik on the icon in the system tray.in the menu selet configure desktopx in each tab look for a "start with windows" or "run on startup" button this will tell the program to load when you start the computer... do this for each program u want to load up with windows .....

First the tray icon. You can find these settings by right clicking the systray icon for DesktopX under Configure DesktopX. If you don't see the systray icon, you can get these settings by clicking on DesktopX in the start menu. If the systray icon isn't there, you can turn it on by unchecking the "No tray icon" in the DX settings/advanced tab. You can also unhide the icon by right clicking the start button and choose properties then taskbar and customize. Highlight your icon there and in the drop down choose how you want it to display that icon.

You can unhide the icons in the Configure DesktopX under the theme settings/desktop tab.(Note. Sometimes, if your icons are at the edge of the screen you can't see them, regardless of this setting. Unload DX move the icons away from the edge and reload it.)

If you don't save your settings for the theme(preferably as a new name), it will revert to the last saved theme after a computer restart. Right click the systray icon for DX and choose save theme before you exit windows.
