how to make sounds when you open certain programs

Is there any way to have windows play sounds when you open a specific program? I know how to make it do it with all programs but I want a sound just when I start i.e. or outlook. Any suggestions?

Thanks Iplural. I knew there had to be some kind of program out there. Really appreciate it.
And to Essencay, Howard Dean's scream is my Windows exclamation, error beep, etc. It's pretty funny when my wife gets on after I've been gaming with the speakers up and she doesn't save a window before closing and you hear this loud Yeeeaarrrhhhh in the next room. Now with that sound association program I am gonna have Al Gore tell me how he invented the internet every time I open I.E.

I found that program last night, but couldn't get it to make any noise on my machine.......... must try again.

to add to this does any body know where to get a talking sound pack? i have a sound pac that has sounds extracted from games. for example when i open a prog it says accessing, when i close it it says task complete,i was wondering if there were other sound packs out there ....

HG, I don't know what 'sound pacs' are, but if you want computer sounding .wavs similar to those you mentioned, then check out this site:

thast s cool site it had quite a few cool sounds...basically a sound pack is a zip file of sounds that u can use instead of the default computer sounds. usually they are named to match the sound's they replace...

Downloaded Sound Association but can't get the sounds to work. I have tried running it in the various compatibility modes but still nothing. Any suggestions?

Now I'm no wiz at this, but doesn't a program have to have the option to use sounds when it opens? I have some things such as winpatrol that allowed me to use a sound when it opened or detected something, and spybot allowed me to use a sound when it finished doing it's scan. And generally I look for such things when I use other programs but not all of them have that option, it would be nice if they did, but I don't know of any other way to apply a sound to a program without going into the programs code itself and adding that option. If anyone knows how to do that I'd love to know how.

If a proggie has sounds it will install them and they will show up in 'Audio' option in Control Panel. Short of that, forget it.

naaa yrag..many progs have adjustable sounds u can change.. many prog authors havent added the registry changes & etc needed for them to be added to the sounds section in controll panel. i can name 2 rite off hand, adaware and spybot.

yes i read it whats your point ? theres many programs that have sounds that can be changed ... that won't be found in the sounds section of the controll panell.

A noisy computer is a good computer! Put your .wav files to good use and assign them to all of your most-used programs with this free utility. Sound Association (formerly Souser-Sound Association) lets you easily assign sound events to any Windows executable file. For instance, you can have a specific .wav file play when you open Word, another when you fire up Notepad, and still another when you launch your Web browser. Besides "Open" sound events, you can add hooks for Close, Maximize, Minimize, Restore Up, Restore Down, and more. Just type in the program's "friendly" name, browse for its .exe, and check off the sound hooks you want to add. Then, push a button to go directly to the Control Panel Sounds area to assign .wav files to your sound events.
