Cats

Dogs have Masters.....Cats have Staff....I`ve caught a wide cat and have become mother to it...It`s taken 3 weeks to get him used to me but now I can hold him without fear of loosing a limb...Any advise welcome as I need to get him social ! (PS he still uses bad language) Hissing and the occational spit !

I have met many mean cats in my lifetime. Most of them wanted my eyes. One of my friends has a cat that if you got within 5 ft. of it would jump at you and attack. Although most cats are usually nice, fear the evil ones.

My daughter and I have called him Joey...I`ve done the vet thing, neutered and all, clipped nails and even attempted a bath wearing a swimming costume (me not the cat)....
Thanks Essencay - and Sir Travis the Kong...He does the jump and attack thing too....
He gets lots of TLC....so its just a matter of time then ?

Worse case scenario is you and he will find neutral ground and be able to
co-exist in the same household

we just brought in a stray. didn't have a problem getting the cat used to us.. she sort of adopted US and not the other way around. we'd open the back door in the morning and she'd tumble into the room, having been asleep up against the door. then she'd do this cute little yawn and look around like 'whaaat?'. ANYWAY..
as for getting cats used to you, like sn' said.. it just takes time. feed her, keep her box clean, and don't try to pick her up if she isn't ready. trust me she'll come up to you when she's ready.. you'll be on the computer one day and she'll sit on your lap, lie on your head, or just spread out on some important document you're reading. pet gently and don't make sudden movements. key word is don't force her. she'll come around.

awww... I wanna kitty cat too!
Can't though, I have a pet cockatiel (Aussie parrot thingy) which does not live in a cage.
She knows my work hours, and every time I'm due to finish my shift in my downstairs office, she has a special whistle she uses to let me know my shift is ending.
The moment I open the front door, she flies from wherever she is in my apartment onto my shoulder, chatters in my ear, and nibbles at my earlobe. I can take her outside, with her unclipped wings, and she does not leave my shoulder, and would never fly away
I would dread the day I came upstairs to find a pet cat with a guilty grin on it's face. and a solitary feather in the corner of it's mouth, ...a look in it's eyes saying "what??"

We have a young Conure (another parrot thingy) 'Captain Morgan'. He stays in a cage next to my computer. We have three dogs 
Real birds, not those little budgies and finches, are great. Conure's don't talk as well or as clearly as other parrots, but he barks with the dogs when a car pulls in the dooryard and he tells them to stop it, stop barking when there is no reason for them to be barking. I really would love to have him out of the cage, but he's just to tempting a morsel for the dogs.

One word...Catnip...lots of it...makes them do really silly stuff and eventually he will warm up to you. And remember, cats are Verrrrry independent so it takes longer for some cats to warm up to you, so don't take it personally if it takes some time.

Styl-X Design is a dog-person... even if the only dog he has is only 40 cm long (its called a teckel in dutch, english is a dachshund or daxhund or something like that...)

So is the Wombat .... 'Biggles the Beagle' and 'Chloe the Beagle Bitch' (and she can be at times!) rule our home.

At our house we have a "show dog"(german shepherd)a "court jester"(boarder collie/german sherpherd mix)and a "fat cat" tabby and they all get along great! When it comes to feeding time, Mits(cat)will come over to me and give me a little friendly reminder..........a little nibble on the ankle or a swat(with her paw)on the leg. If you ignore her she will tear up the house! They have their own personalities......some good and some bad

I love all animals, but cats most especially . I have only one cat right now...she's about 15 years old, but still acts like a wee li'l kitten most of the time. I'd love to bring at least one more cat into the household, but my cat has been Queen of the Roost for her entire life, and I'm afraid of what might happen if another cat intruded. It could be great, she could welcome a new cat with open paws and have a great playmate. Or she could rip it to shreds and eat it for breakfast because it dared to intrude on her territory. So, one cat for now, it is.
Best advice for now is to give your new cat all the space it needs. A feral cat need plenty of space and freedom before there's any chance of it becoming domesticated. Let it become comfortable with you and your daughter on its down terms, don't try to force it to get along with you. Patience is usually the best training device. The cat needs to decide whether it can trust you, and once that happens, everything should be fine.

Well eventually "Joey" will need a TLC home with someone but for now he`s doing fine....Thanks for the overwhelming responce guys.....The community is obviously real pet lovers...
Just fed "Joey"...I crawl under the bed where he has chosen to hide himself, gently take him out and feed him (funny thing is) he won`t eat unless I stroke him ?...And now he`s used to the underthebedpullout thing and asumes that when this happens its food time, how funny...
The golden globe award must be when |I get him to purr...Several months away I would ashume.
