is your windows directory on driveC? If so, how is it that you were able to take that screenshot without windows support?

. I wasn't fiddling with things for once. I was just changing the theme and right after I changed the icons I got this message when I tried to open up explorer

is your windows directory on driveC? If so, how is it that you were able to take that screenshot without windows support?

my windows is on c. I havent' a clue to why the rest of windows is working.

If that message is for real, if I were you I would use system restore and revert back to a previous time before re-booting. You might reboot and get absolutly nothing.

Ouch! It may be because it's starting to fail. If you can, listen the hard drive for "clicking" noise, or it may be circuit board issue.

I have the recovery console installed so I am not worried about that, I don't have to startup windows if something goes wrong. It is very real though. I don't think its serious because I can save things, but I can't open folders. very strange indeed. Its like my explorer got lost in the jungle and met that guy in the middle of it and decided never to come back out.

added note: I trekked into my jungle and found my explorer. I beat him up and he came back home and everything is groovy.

You just re-installed WinXP earlier? Doesn't make sense, neither does what's happening to your system now, but sometimes XP installs don't always "stick" real good when adhered to a hard drive. I would re-re-install WinXP again if it's this flaky now.

Travis the Crazy -
I have to laugh, cause I know how it feels. I have had some really wird thing happen on my PC also. Missing files, missing directories etc. On time I booted up to find NOTHING. I have reinstalled windows and re-formatted countless times. I now have three main drives D, D with a subdrive D, and copy of D. All three have windows directories. No matter how I do it, it comes out the same. (my poor apps are soooo confused) Time for a new PC.
