Problem in XP

How do I turn the autorun back on in XP? Used to work when I put a CD in that it would play automatically, games as well. Now they do not. How do I turn the autorun CD back on?

Go to Microsoft.com or find the link on the left bar at geeknewz.com and download PowerToy for Windows. It's a handy little app by MS to change the "hidden" features of Windows. There's an option to change it back. Hope this helps you out.

yes maybe that wil work but I remeber you can change it without powertoys but i do not remember how.

Maybe by altering the autostart settings in the properties of the drive? You could accidently have checked it off somehow.

Set what you want it to do under the 'Autoplay' tab

kona the easyest way should be to open the media player of your choice. then select the play cd on insert option..that should allow the cd's to be automaticaly played on insert in the mediaplayer of your chioce ...

yes but what about when i put in a game cd?

and i see no autoplay under properties

OPen "my computer", then right click on the icon for your CD drive. Choose "properties" from the drop down list. A dialog box will pop up. This dialog box will have 5 tabs on it. The second tab from the left should be "autoplay" Click on that to open that tab. From there you can set the autoplay option.

I have no autoplay tab.

Are you sure you're right clicking on the CD icon? It could be anything, but usually drive d or e. You dont want the hard drive icon, you want the CD icon.

Auto-Play: Enable

Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services/Shell Hardware Detection/Return this service to Automatic.

Start/Run/Gpedit.msc/Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/System. Check your settings in the right pane for Turn Off AutoPlay (and modify).

Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet\Services\Cdrom. AutoRun = 1

Or run this edit: Enable CD AutoPlay for Pro or Home (Line 10)

HG_Eliminator - services were turned off in admin tools so when i turned them back on i got my autoplay tab back.
