Winstep skinners

Change drawer images

Friday, May 17, 2024 by aceuk007 | Discussion: Skinning

I have just downloaded the trail winstep. But it seems that skinning  is not straightforward.  I have put A drawer on left screen edge but would like to change the image of when it opens and closed. Does anyone know how to do this.

Thanx

Not sure what you mean by "change the image of it" when opened and closed. Do you mean it's skin/theme? Can you be more specific?

To change the skin, click on the Nexstart Start button, and choose "Preferences". A window should open. Then choose the "Themes" tab, and choose one to your liking from the list in the left panel. Then click "Apply" and then "OK".

If that isn't what you meant, try making a screen shot.

I don't want to use a theme just my own images. Sorry I don't know how to insert pics in post.

So, if I'm understanding you, your desire is to create skins of your own design.

Perhaps RedneckDude can teach you how to skin Winstep. He's a Master skinner and a nice guy. Don't tell him I said so.

I'd suggest sending him a pm. To do that, click on his nickname in a post he made and a drop down will appear. Choose the "Private Message" option and send it to him. Here...maybe this way is easier:

Here's a url to his gallery: https://www.wincustomize.com/users/3536279/RedneckDude

On the right you'll see Private Message. I can't promise he has the time to devote, but click that and your on your way. Welcome, and good luck!

JanOscar has been a huge help for me skinning rainmeter. Winstep files are similar. Working with an .ini file is not the easiest.

I don't see any similarity between programming rainmeter files and Winstep files, I practice in both programs and rainmeter, it's tearing your hair out. Winstep, you just have to download a few themes, analyze the different files and with a little patience, persistence and testing you quickly understand how it works, even if certain settings remain unclear, you can build a coherent theme. Rainmeter is straight up C++, C# and Lua script programming...and more, it's much more complicated. This is just my opinion.

Thanks for everyone's input.

RedneckDude thanks for your offer.

RedneckDude you recently replied to a post where I asked if DesktopX works on Win 11. The situation is that I currently have a pc runnning Win 7 with a DesktopX theme that I've had on it for over 10 years. I maybe getting a Laptop with Win 11 hence the question which you replied to. At this time I also looked at other options in case DX won't work. I came across Winstep. My plan was to get the look of my DX theme into Winstep.

Although you confirmed the DX will work on Win 11, I thought I might have a go at transferring the theme anyway ,but not as straightforward as I thought. So the outcome is If I get the Laptop and have problems with DesktopX running my theme then I might give it a go and may email you.

Cheers.

I was just making the statement that they both use .ini files.
