Help! It's dead.......!

Wednesday, January 21, 2004 by BoXXi | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

My optical mouse appears to have died... I started the puter this morning and had no light on my mouse or movement of my cursor. Does anyone know if this is a common occurrence with the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer? Do I have to buy a new one, or could it be something other than the mouse itself? Any suggestions are welcome.

(The mouse is approx. 3 years old, is connected via USB, and has only been dropped once...

It might be the USB port, have you tried plugging anything else into that port, or tried your mouse in another port, or even another computer?

BoXXi I don't know if your mouse is similar to mine or not, but mine is the same as your description except mine also takes 2 "AAA" batteries underneath where the optical light is.

No battery compartment visible anywhere...... I think it takes power directly from the computer via the USB.

Use a USB adapter and plug it into the Mobo mouse port.

Ah, buy a new one then, 3 years, lets see, I replace my batteries of my cordless mouse about every 3 weeks so you still won't make any lose in buying a new one

Damn! I don't want to buy a new one! I like this one.  Someone said it may be a mouse software problem, would it be worth running the installation disk again?

O.K. Gary, I will try that.... I guess if it doesn't light up when it's in the PS2 port, then I can probably assume it's beyond help?

won't that be difficult if the mouse isn't working?
